Interesting web article on TTD!

Well, I was doing my normal round of websites, and came across this interesting article (dated for the 21st of March, 2003) on Top Thrill Dragster and Cedar Point from www.danimation.com.

According to the article TTD is "a tepid, bland, boring and entirely uninteresting investment of 27 million dollars. " The author also throws quite a few insults towards the ride and Cedar Point itself.

Didn't Dragster cost $25 million?
This is how I love this kinda stuff. In an attempt to get attention, they have criticized the ride before they have even rode it. How stupid is that?
I want to find the park this guy is comparing CP to, because it has to be awesome!

Enjoy your ride on the big bad bug

Danimation is the most unreliable site. Ever.
Don't let Sean O get under your skin. He just speaks what he feels...hell he thinks AIR and mostly all other B&M's are bland, pointless and boring.

I often wonder why a small number of enthusiasts hate Cedar Point so much. I wonder if these people ever stop to ponder why Cedar Point is so popular. I guess when you're on top, a certain percentage of people are going to take shots at you merely because you're on top. Perhaps it's even more perplexing that he later goes on to praise a ride at a park with a horrible customer service record. Does that make him a Six Flags fanboy?

"But, on the rare occasion that CP actually gets something right"

One of those "rare occasions" must have been Millennium Force, when the author praised the ride ranking it as his #1. Maybe he's a closet fanboy?

"It was a tepid, bland, boring and entirely uninteresting investment of 27 million dollars."

Wow - Sean O has more industry knowledge than Richard Kinzel! Perhaps Cedar Point would be a better place if only Sean O were in charge. His anger towards Cedar Point is blinding him.

"Cedar Point began by blowing every aspect of ride promotion ..."

Just the opposite. Their plan was brilliant. Never before has a park garnered so much attention for a new ride. The media coverage and exposure of the "mystery" provided an immeasurable amount of free publicity. And for months, it was by far the most popular topic among enthusiasts. It still is.

Even though he writes as if all of the world's enthusiasts agree with him, in the end, it's just one person's opinion. It's not like we're dealing with an industry expert or anything.

Cedar Point has an unequaled combination of thrills, history, service, and atmosphere. How can anyone not like that?

Cedar Point ugly? So easy to hate Cedar Point? Terrible rides? TTD trains ugly? Intamin has a horrible record? This guy has some serious problems. I think he's just trying to get attention.

It's his loss, really. I will go to any amusement park, and if I had fun, then I personally think it's a good park and go back there again (if possible). That's the reason that I and so many other people, such as those on this site, return to Cedar Point year after year. I have yet to have a bad time a da' point. Sean kid here just needs to relax and frankly, he really does need to get a life!

Almost forgot the smiley face. :)

My favorite "insight" from the article...

"The initial hope and interest in the entusiast [sic] community turned into disappointment, and in many cases, anger as Cedar Point ignored the public outcry about the LTHB design."

Isn't this what all you folks who frequent this TTD forum had been discussing for months before the announcement? Just because someone randomly complains on a website doesn't mean a design that was planned years in advance is going to be changed. (We don't hear anyone here whining now, do we? ^_^ )

ok so now i am returning my season pass cause dragster sucks thanks for the info since Sean O has ridden a ride that has never been fully tested, but it is a bland attempt....what a moron.
i bet he is mad cause he lives by Worlds of Adventure, that or a cornfield with tons of cows and now girls! it is easy to write a bad comment about anything but you look like a bafoon for writing bad comments about something that hasn't even been released or ridden! i have been going to cedar point for almost 20 years now and i have never seen any parts that are ugly, well maybe the bathrooms aren't the best but they are the bathrooms! well needless to say that is one less body in line for the best new ride, what a dolt!

Besides the great rides and being the best of everything, the best part about Cedar Point is that it isn't Six Flags! YAY!
What I liked, was how TTD was "uninteresting" at the beginning of the article, but "fascinating" at the end. Make up your mind.
Random lights placed on random supports? A christmas tree? Looks more like countdown lights to me...
Christmas Tree is the correct term for the countdown lights. Christmas Tree: http://www.raceamerica.com/images/ptxl/lights.jpg

Danimation is a full of tools and losers. What a joke. After the buzz surrounding RCT died down, the site became even less important than Thrillnetwork. That's pretty bad.

Wait until CP goes after them for ripping off their images.

Anyway, the moron needs to read the freakin' balance sheet. Cedar Fair is kicking ass and taking names. It's the only thing I've invested in since I graduated from college that didn't roll-up, tank and die. What are we at now for cash distribution, 6%? 8% on investment?Walt's right. Some people just take shots because it's at the top.

What is most anticipated event of 2003? the debut of Dragster, the release of Metallica's new album, the release of Terminator 3, or the release of Matrix:Reloaded...tough call.

I have one question... Sean O mentions "the speakers in Demon's tunnels". Okay, what speakers, and what Demon?? I don't recall the Demon Drop having speakers or a tunnel... and the Demon Drop is the only ride at CP that has the word Demon in it. Am I missing something or what??

The only Demon I know with tunnels is the one at SFGAm. Maybe he's referring to that?

There are a ton of CP haters out there, and he has always appeared to be one of them. His comments are personal, and, IMO, not very well presented. But hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I'm sure there will be enough people who will find a 420 ft LTHB full-circuit ride to be more than "bland and boring". Being a drag racing participant and fan, I think the trains rock.

The end of the season numbers will tell if CP made a mistake or not.

Maybe somebody should turn him in to Cedar Point becuase the pictures he used were from the Cedar Point website. I doubt he has permission.

Life is full of ups and down, you better make sure your safety restraint is locked and ENJOY the ride.

I'm sure someone at Cedar Point already knows.
