Interactive Fountain

Coaster Krazy's avatar

I saw a few kids playing in it yesterday after the rain subsided. I think it was a good move on Cedar Point's part. The area around it looks wonderful, and the fountain at night is really beautiful, especially from a ride like Sky Ride or Raptor. Way more attractive and nice looking than a pointy ball that wasn't turned on half the time anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

I watched the video and to me it does look rather lame.

The ball fountain had a nostalgic feel and look to it. It's been there ever since I can remember and I've been going to Cedar Point for the last 41 years. It added something special the the atmosphere.

I too hope no one gets hurt.

I agree that the fountain didn't look too impressive in the daytime, but it seems there are additional holes for fountains that were not in use yet. Give it some time. And people seemed to be enjoying playing in it, so that's always good.

I wish I could have seen it at night... I didn't get a chance to. I'll check it out when I go back.

^ Re checking the pics i do believe your right. No matter what it looks amazing... just have to wait and see it in person this Thursday!

I'm shure they can change the jets a bit...I found it funny that while in line for Magnum there were a alot of people talking about the Dyson air blade dryers in the bathrooms

I think those dryers confused some people. I saw some people look at them, and then just dry their hands on their pants... haha.

The best part about a park improvement like this is that it's different things to different people. Good to read your opinions. I witnessed adults and kids today going through it and having a good time. In general, it looks like a hit.

There are additional jets that were not on, but I'm sure they'll make an appearance soon.

Didn't anyone like the big, new LED signs? :)

looks great...a little to much moving, waving, slithering text though

I think the new fountain is a great idea. This one appeals more to the general public, which is what CP needs right now.

Ps. From the pictures that Walt and Jeff posted, the new signs look great. :)

The new screens are great. I almost drove off the causeway a few times this weekend watching the screen on the new sign... you may want to put a bumper of some sort around the sign ;) . I also liked how the screens at the entrance gates pointed out the different entrances such as Early Entry, General Admission, etc... That was a great touch!

The new installations seem really dangerous this year; people running through the fountain and the distracting screen-it should say, pay attention to the road

Josh M.'s avatar

Wow... W!cked... you are complaining about alot...even down to the text transitions on the screens...

As far as the fountain goes... many city parks and other public places have these fountains and they are just fine... it's not like CP came up with this so-called death trap of an idea... As long as people are careful, it will be fine.

As far as the screens go... As a responsible driver, you should know to keep your eyes on the road (even though I didn't a few times this weekend) Alot of vehicles that travel up the causeway have more than one passenger (children/school buses). Those are the people who can really enjoy the screens...

^^that was kinda sarcasim

Tony, I have to say -- I was very impressed with how nice the park looks. The improvements at the entrance plaza are fantastic. My jury's out on the interactive fountain, but then again I only observed it today, when nobody in their right mind was the slightest bit interested in going through jets of cold water. The new sign for Magnum -- perfect. Just what she needed.

Of course, I took note of all those bazillions of lights on Frontier Trail, and am eagerly anticipating the Experience. (Starlight, that is.)

True story: Me being entranced by the LED sign caused me to hit a bay gull :(

They're still called seagulls. They're so fetch.

Hey Tony, do you have anything to do with programming the signs? I'm not sure if I remember you talking about them.

I'll tell you guys where you can road trip to see the ball fountain if you really want to see it again.

If it's warm, there will be tons of kids running through the new fountains. I can't think of anywhere I've been with one that hasn't been busy, especially on a hot summer day.

They've really needed something near the front of the park where a majority of the kiddie rides are located so that kids can get cooled off.

The new Causeway sign looked great, although I didn't get a chance to check out the redone front entrance plaza. I was underwhelmed with the new fountain and definitely prefer the old ball, although I'll check it out again when all the jets are working. The LEDs at night were a nice touch.

Oh, and I can't believe nobody mentioned the awesome, good looking new awning the Challenge Park ticket booth received. :)

I am responsible for programming them. They'll get better. It's my first shot at digital billboards, so I'm taking baby steps.

Now that we're open and I can spend more time with them, I'll add some more video.
