If they want to build on the lake, they would "create" land like they did for the causeway. The same way Cleveland Browns Stadium is built "on" Lake Erie.

...But I can't see the park doing anything like that anytime soon.

Hehe yes, but I think the whole point was having a ride over the actual lake. Not so much on land that replaced the lake. :-P

Sorry to all that are fed up w/new guide to the point members asking stupid questions that have already been asked a thousand times. It'd just be cool to do a dive over the water or a corkscrew over the water and being so close to it. Here may be another dumb question...but how are the footers for bridges placed? Could the same concept be used for footers for a coaster? Sorry in advance..
Derek:

Yes, the same 'concept' could be used to build a coaster. Engineers can pretty much figure out a way to build whereever they want to. They are just saying that Cedar Point most likely doesn't have the right to build over one of the Great Lakes. (Just like how I couldn't go to a lake and build on it, even if I owned property around it.)

I think it would be very cool to have a roller coaster over the water. Even though Iron Dragon isn't the most thrilling coaster, I love it because of the 'water effect,' it's a lot of fun.

Thank you Vanessa, I think your right!

Sell crazy someplace else, we're all stocked up here. - Jack Nicholson

The biggest problem with building a ride on uncontrolled water is the expansion that occurs. When water freezes, it expands and then collapses when it heats up. This is why bridges (including the causeway) have "gaps" on the road sections to allow them to expand/contract. Even though it is minute to a road, it could lead to disastrous effects on rollercoasters having to be precisely lined up and such.
