If you could change a ride layout?

The Frontier Lift was a separate ride, not an extension of the Sky Ride. If they ever have plans to extend the Sky Ride, they would have to get new equipment. The current equipment is obsolete and not compatible with any equipment currently in production. They could probably reuse the towers but the terminals, grips and probably cars would have to be all new.

The Frontier Lift station is still back there by Mine Ride. I think it would be really cool if they extended Sky Ride.

Wait, the frontier lift was an entirely separate ride? Wow.

I actually tried to look for pictures and video of the thing, and I couldn't find any good pictures or video of it at all. Do you guys have any?

I’ve seen some old 8mm films of the Frontier Lift. Back when Frontier Town was new (1960s) the Frontier Lift and the CP&LE Railroad were the only ways to get back there.

I just followed your link and all it gave me were pictures of trucks.

Ok, but when I click on the link it takes me to Frontier Lift information. Just search Google for "Cedar Point Frontier Lift"

Skyhawk, same with Youtube, just search cedar point frontier lift and there will be 8mm videos that include it, and some illegal 8mm Corkscrew POV footage as well. Imagine trying to hold one of those things on a coaster!

Imagine getting hit by one of those on a coaster!

A cell phone would hurt, but I imagine one of those camcorders would probably be able to put you in the hospital.

I don't know how true the rumors are about Cedar Creek mine ride, but if they were to remove/modify it, I would make it more faster and smoother at the same time. Maybe change the layout a little so it's not too soft. Also they could definitely use trains that have more leg room in them.

How illegal?
I recall the first time I heard any ride op mention on-ride photography not being allowed was on Wave Swinger in 1982. As for holding a Super-8 camera on a ride, most were made with a pistol-grip and my Sankyo also included a wrist strap. My Kodak M28 and my Sankyo EM-40XL are both easier to hold than any of my video gear. Especially the Sankyo. The bigger problem is that a 50’ roll of film only runs for 3:20, so a single ride burns the whole roll.

You are probably right. There was also probably a time when smoking was allowed on coasters.

The ride layout I'd like to see changed at Cedar Point is Gemini. Give it the same layout as the classic Colossus roller coaster at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Drops that go all the way to the ground. It had a double up and a double down element. It was a fast and great airtime ride way back when PTC Trains were the rolling stock on the tracks. The POV shots in National Lampoon's Vacation was not sped up. The trains really did go that fast. Towards the end of Gemini I'd still keep the upward helix at the end of the ride. Coming off the lift the track would have to have a slight dogleg to the right.

The Cedar Creek Mine Ride is just fine the way it is. Kings island is bringing back the Antique Cars Ride, I would be all in if Cedar Point would bring back the Jumbo Jet.

Speaking of Magnum XL 200, I'd like to see it being reprofiled to where the bunny airtime hills are more rounded like Steel Force. Much better than on Magnum and less painful. Even it means removing one bunny hill on Magnum XL 200.

My dad carried around an 8mm movie camera for years when we went on vacation when I was growing up. He took it to Six Flags over Georgia one year on what happened to be media day for Mind Bender (we had no idea). All day long, we were waved up to the front seat because they assumed my dad was part of the media. There were no mounts in the cars for cameras. First time, my dad just held the camera up to his eye. He soon realized that it was impossible to hold the camera steady that way. So he held it against his chest the rest of the time. Still bounced all over the place. Rolls of film were 2/2.5 minutes long if I remember right so he was always splicing multiple rolls together to make watchable movies. Somewhere in his basement, the Mind Bender film is still there I am sure. He probably has movies of some of our annual trips to Cedar Point as well from the 70s (though I do not have a specific recollection of him taking the camera to CP).

Camera was very heavy. Would definitely have done some damage had he dropped in while on the ride. But no one thought anything of it. So not only wasn't the footage illegal, it was pretty much sanctioned by the park at the time.

HORRIBLE idea. Leave Magnum the way it is.

Why's that a horrible idea? Airtime bunny hills on Steel Force are like Magnum's third hill. Great float time. Magnum's airtime bunny hills feel like before Cedar Point reprofiled the third hill after the 1989 season. Bad enough where trim brakes were added on top 1989, now at the bottom of the hill.
