just because he lives in st. louis does not mean that he can't work at cedar point. he could be here for the summer like he said, duh

Well, I don't take anyone seriously who attended Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, oops I mean Purdue. But I guess your email works for both.

Judging from the way you've used it in your post, gavin, you may want to check your definition of the word idiocracy.

You got a third grade education, kid.

I know where you're going soon......
Okay, I guess we better stop or we'll be no better than him.
Well, trying to yell at this guy for living in St. Louis and working at CP is rediculous, as you'll often see somebody from a lot farther away than that giving you your fries and Pepsi. I'm not sure about the whole wind deal though, as on the windiest day of the operating season (mother's day), TTD was one of the few coasters running. If I can remember correctly there were gusts around 60 mph, but Dragster ran, atleast part of the day, despite this. One question for you gavin, where did you come about this abundance of information about the rides problems. I don't buy the "I talk to the ride ops" explanation, because I very highly doubt that the ride ops are informed on the mechanical problems of the ride.

On another note, this has gone completely off topic. Dragster hasn't even been mentioned in the last few posts (EDIT: Now it has. Mantis Man replied before I did.). This topic needs to die before it gets personal up in here.

d) prevailing southwest winds are not the case. it is the canadian maritime winds that move down from canada across lake erie. if the dragster went up on the left side and came down on the right side, it wouldn't be a problem. but the coriolis effect will slow the car down as it comes into the wind. also you are not taking into account that the peninsula that cedar point sits on is not facing north/south. it faces northwest and is also therefore directly influenced by winds out of the southwest. hope this answers your question, sincerely yours, atmospherical sciences major, purdue university.

Now, maybe im just really dumb(which could be) but the way I see it, the wind coming from Canada would be pushing Dragster over the top and not making it fall back down, but if it did go from the left side up and then down the right, your canadian wind would be a problem. If Im totaly wrong, tell me and i'll back down from the fight. Im no weather man, but i have an idea of which way wind blows

Thank you everyone for giving me something funny, yet interesting, to read every day when i come home from work. To hear peolpes opinions and then everyone else rip it apart makes for a very hearty laugh no matter how far fetched it really is. I'll sum it up in one word : DRAMA!

Why am I replying again? Lord help me, I love talking about the weather ...

gavin (note e.e. cummings spelling) is right about one thing - "Canadian" winds would most directly affect the speed of Dragster. And, given the historically cool spring the Midwest has had, and the unusual position of the jet stream the past month or so, I would not be surprised if northern Ohio has had many more than average days of winds from the north - which, again, could be trouble.

Having said that, if what you're building is wind-affected(and I don't know that except under exceptional conditions Dragster is), you must plan for normal conditions, which are, of course, southwesterlies.

And dude, as far as the "coriolis" effect goes, I don't know where to start ...
