Idea for Maverick

Maverick has taken over as my number 1 coatser over Millie this year but the Harnesses kill the ride especially first time Riders that dont know how to brace themselves. Hopefully this off season Cedar Fair will spend some money and retrofit the trains with the new Intamin OTSR as seen here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OV4JQgVWb7g. That would be freakin sweet!

That still doesn't look to pleasing. Why not just lap bars? The roll was taken out, which was pretty much the only reason for having OTSR in the first place. Doubt they would change it though.

That is me in the picture on the left. If I was given the choice of the OTSR's or the Over The Shoulder Lap Bars with Shoulder Straps (OTSLBw/SS), I'll take the latter every day of the week and twice on Sunday. Of course a lap bar is going to be the preferred choice. But, sometimes it's not given as a choice.

How do you know? Did you work for Intamin while they were designing the ride?

I got an idea for maverick, leave it alone or run it at night with no lights at all.

Shoot the rapids, tame and dry. Thunder Canyon, wet and laughter. Snake River Falls, soaked and smiling. White Water Landing and the old shoot the rapids, Fun and missed.

I agree with just using a lap bar. Millie just has a lap bar correct? I agree that the OTSR's were probably only used because of the heartline roll.

I love the Maverick too! It is one of my top rollercoaster pics! I love to put my arms up, but I always seem to bruise the sides of my arms from the Harnesses, but I don't mind! I could be worse....

Life is like a rollercoaster! It is full of ups and downs

Ok so imagine how much you get thrown side to side during the Maverick course. The OTSR's limit lateral movement going through all those ridiculous turns and transitions. Ok. Now. Imagine not having the OTSR's and just a lapbar. You would get severely thrown side to side either into parts of the train or into the rider next to you. Back injuries would ensue from the extreme, sudden lateral changes in direction that your spine would be put through.

Now, I ask you. Lapbars? Those shoulder straps look like they would be comfortable, so I wouldn't mind them using those too much.

As I've stated in another thread, I think that the OTSR's really do kill what could be a great ride for me. I would take the the shoulder straps any day over the current restraint system. In the links above, are those the same type of restraints used on sky scraper?

Don't call me a "scare actor", I'm a Screamster

^No, the restraints in the pics are basically the same as Maverick, only instead of hard shoulder restraints, it has softer straps. My guess is those straps have some give with them as you're riding. The Skyscraper restraints are all straps, no lapbar.

I agree 100%
Leave her alone......

But the rumor going around is the new coaster over at Kings Dominion and Carowinds (Intimidator) is going to have the new OTSR's. Their original plan was to go with the simple Lap bars but because of all the complaints from larger guest not being able to ride TTD or Millie they decided against it. There for the OTSR's are being used.

That brings me to the question is that why they used OTSR's on Maverick? Or are they being used because of the horse shoe barrel roll?

^Like I said 4 posts up, you need OTSR's because of all the extreme changes in direction. If you had lapbars, people would be slamming heads into each other and having scoliosis from the way their spines would be bending.

i would love to ride maverick with a lap bar. that would be the most intense ride of my life. there is a reason for the otsr, with only a lap bar the extreme changes in direction on maverick would be way to intense, tho i would love to experience it. i would risk my life to do it.

my fav. rides:

1) M-Force
1) Maverick

^^^ At carowinds? i know at kings diminion but carowinds? I dont know what to say if you are to big to ride. its for your saftey.

Dont mess things up that don't need fixed.

Pepsi Refresh is saving one coaster at a time: http://pep.si/bTTsfc

Does Intamin have any rides that go upside down (like Maverick does twice) that uses ONLY lap bars?

How much more weight loss will it take to get on Raptor, Mantis, MF and TTD?

I don't mind the shoulder part of the restraint on Maverick, it's the lapbars that crush my thighs through all of the air time.

And as for the rumours about the Intimidator(s) that MaVeRiCk AnD MaGnUm-XL200 mentioned, the one at KD would make sense since it in Intamin, but the B&M at CW looks to have the new open concept trains like Behemoth and Diamondback have (I've ridden both and love those trains).

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

Flight of Fear at KI goes upside down, and quick changes of direction. It only has lap bars. Beast (also at KI) has only lap bars, and has way more intense changes of direction than Maverick. It can be done, but I love Maverick the way it is and don't want it changed at all...

Leave the ride it self alone!!!!!
It is fine with all of the safety elements to it!!!
If it is tooo restrictive you will have neck and back injuries could be that is why it is the way it is!!!
If anything add more scenery!!!! and theme it out more!!!!
