I think most first year employees are at least somewhat nervous about working at Cedar Point. It'll be my first year, and I'm kinda nervous about it.

well..it just kinda sucks, i mean im happy im working there, but then like a week after my contracts up..im gone 5 hours away for college.. i mean..at least im only like 40min from home when im at cedar point
Hey Tiffani, welcome to the Point :) You're going to have an awesome time this summer. I know how you feel, I was 18 and just out of high school when I first moved to Cedar Point. Once you get up there, start working, and start making friends you'll have a blast. It is so much fun!

There's a lot of hard work too, of course. Just remember to hang in there, and do your best. It will all be worth it.

"Am I still in Cedar Point?"

I'm in the same group as you, as well. I'm graduating from HS at the end of May, and am coming up to CP all the way from Atlanta. I'm really looking forward to the job itself, but the being 12 hours away from my family and everyone I know is what makes me a little nervous. Anyways, see you guys at CP!

At college, I'm a resident assistant, so it's a part of my job to help incoming freshmen and returning students feel comfortable about their new surroundings. Here is a bit of advice for you new folks who are going to be far away from home for the first time since I think this is really important. Especially if you're coming from really far away, everything is going to be really different for you. The types of stores will be different, the landscape will be different, the housing will be different, and of course, the people will be diferent from what you may be used to. It's going to take you a while to adjust, and many of you may feel homesick. This is natural and it doesn't make you weird or stupid. What's going to help you through this is talking to other people about how you feel, instead of keeping those thoughts inside your head. As well, don't spend all your free time in your room; get out, have fun, and find things to do in town and with other people. After the first few weeks, or even a month, you will begin to feel a lot better and you will have gotten used to being away from home.

In my opinion, working at CP is a great preparation for going to college, because you're going to get to figure out how to live on your own without having the added stress of homework hanging over your head. By the time you're ready to make that transition to college, you'll be used to living on your own and will be slightly "one-up" on the other freshmen, so you can concentrate on doing well with your schoolwork! I'm really glad you're already on this board, making friends and learning more about everything. You will feel a lot more comfortable and prepared, I think, when you finally arrive at the Point.

Age and treachery will always overcome youth and skill.

wow that was some really good advice. If i may add, just be open minded and, no matter what you do, you will succeed because you will be able to adapt to anything that CP/College will throw at you. Its alot of fun, and alot of work (sometimes). Just enjoy yourself and enjoy the surroundings of the best park in the world

So you want to meat new people. No problem! Thats easy. I am kind of a shy person when meating a large group of new people and I was very shy when I met my new crew, even though it was my second year at Cedar Point. But making freinds here is great, there are really so many nice people. And like MF_BDogg said, be open minded, there is so much to do at Cedar Point and the surounding area that you will have the best time of your life, maybe even better than college;)

Welcome to Cedar Point! I hope you enjoy your stay!

There are 24 hours in a day, and 24 beers in a case. Coincidence?

You will meet a wide diversty of folks from the first day you are there. By the way Lee I only lived in a dorm for 6 months at IU and only had one run in with an RA who was younger than me. He just asked me to turn my cd player down. Lee's advice is solid, follow it!
I have to say that working at CP for the two years I did was the best time of my life. I met many new people and still after 11 years keep in touch with some of them and I even met my wife there. We now go back every year in September for old times and this year we are expecting our 3rd child in June 9 months after September what do you think. Those two summers have changed my life forever.

Lee, that was very very good advice I wish I had known about this website last year lol. Tiffani just to add one more thing to lee's excellent post. Another good part of woking at cp is that the living on cp is almost exactly like living in a dormatory on a college campus. You will have a great summer.

I was a first timer last year. I came over from Scotland on my own, but met so many people within a matter of days. You just have to be yourself. I'm hoping to be back this year.
Well, I was 17 when I graduated from High school and moved to CP. As the sig says, I'm from Cali so I was over 2,400 miles away (2414.32 miles to be exact, but who really cares?) and I was really nervous. It was my first time away from home for more then a week, and I was traveling alone to basically meet no one there.

The first people I met wasn't until I got to the Sandusky Greyhound station (took a flight to cleveland) and the funny thing is we even took the same bus from Cleveland. Anyway, We get to CP and since it was like 7 at night, HR was closed. So we go to housing. Commons was full (It was mid-june) so I had to go to Cedars. I met some more cool people who showed me around the place and went to my room. Met my one and only roommate (well two if you count his girlfriend who basically lived with us) and got settled in. I wasn't hungry and I was exhausted from the day so I went to sleep and woke up the next morning and processed in (where I met up with one of the girls I met at the bus station because she worked in games as well). Sparing any more details, I met quite a few people that day. I also met a lot of people basically everyday that summer, and I keep in touch with a lot of them.

For some reason, I never got home sick, but I do know that, as Lee said, It's good to talk with someone if you do. Since your not very far from home, this is more for those who are coming from farther away. I had the best summer of my life (too date), but it was good to keep in touch with home, so I suggest taking a cell phone (with no roaming) or get a calling card.

To make a long post just a little longer, I will guarantee you will make a lot of friends over the summer.

I will be working at CP this summer also in Housekeeping at Hotel Breakers. I am coming from Charlottesville, Virginia, and I am hoping to meet new people. I am hoping to stay in Ohio, and go to college during off season somewhere to study photography.
