I think they will keep Space Spiral!!!

I think the "haven't heard the whole story" comment may mean that they may actually be keeping Space Spiral as a surprise. It would look awsome with it's red and white next to the Gatekeeper's blue and white. Maybe they heard from the people and will keep it. What do you think?

While I'm sure a lot of people would love for this to be true, I really don't think that's the case.

Announcing that they plan on removing a ride as massive and iconic as SS is a one way ticket, they wouldn't go back on such a brazen decision. Also remember they aren't getting rid of the ride just for the heck of it, they have plenty of reasons (which I'm sure includes not only high maintenance costs and poor ridership, but also the fact it's probably going to get in the way of the new coaster in some manner).

It's great to be hopeful, but in this case you may just have to learn to let it go. I'm sure Gatekeeper will be great, and the loss of SS and DT will be well worth it. :)

Psh, Ocean Motion doesn't count, haha. And technically they did still remove it from where it used to stand. I'm sure we're all well aware of odds of them moving SS. :p

I imagine the cost to relocate Space Spiral is so great, it would be cheaper just to construct a similar new ride. In fact, I wouldn't mind if the park decided to do that in a few years. Maybe even taller and close to the center of the park.

Kylepark, I pulled this up on another topic. I betcha that 2014 we probably won't get much because the focus will go down to Kings Island to replace Son Of Beast. Rumor has it they are planning on building another Giga roller coaster to take the place of Son Of Beast! That would really help out Kings Island, however I won't believe any rumor until it becomes official. Referring to what you said, this is most likely what will replace Space Spiral.

^They should totally tear down Power Tower and place DD there. It'd look so amazing next to CS!

That'd be neat. I just wonder if it would be worth it, considering the poor ridership SS had. Would a nice new look really encourage more people to ride it, or is the concept of an observation tower at CP simply becoming outdated?

Lol. As if people didn't complain enough about 54" restrictions. Lets bring back the ride with a 60" restriction. :-)

It is still running though. To the best of my knowledge, it's the only coaster to be removed from Cedar Point that is still in opperation. Looks like it's in decent shape too.

i would much rather have something like sfmm's tower or a lessly themed eifel tower

^ It would be nice if they built one of those, its something the park is missing is a good vantage point to take pictures. KI and KD have the towers and Hershey has the kissing tower and the pictures from up there are breathtaking. Space spirals windows were to messed up to get very good pictures. Hopefully this is in the future plans.

Wishful thinking, I'm sure. But, if I remember correctly, when Raptor was announced, they initially said they would be removing silver dollar cafe, but in the end they were able to construct Raptor without having to demolish SDC.

So what say you all; is an observation tower a "must" for a park like Cedar Point?

I wish and hoe they keep the Space Needle! It is a part of Cedar Point and there are still many people who enjoy riding it!

Earthquake, Pirate Ride, and Sky Slide are all coming back next year as well.

I think this would be ideal somewhere in the middle of the park. The only problem with that is there isn't too much space between sky ride and Corkscrew to just plop a new Space needle. Now I could see them moving Matterhorn to a new spot to make way for it. That would be an ideal spot. :)
