I got fired from CP of a guest's BS complainT!

Well, It's offical: I'm back at home after a guest FALSE complaint. My boss said "the guets (a 13-yr old girl) wouldn't have any reason to lie, but you do because your butt is to the fire."

Needless to say, I'm now back at home in NH after a 22-hour bus trip. I'm thinking about legal action.

If I was you I'd take a deep breath, delete this post, and chill out on it for a bit. It's going to make you and only you look really bad.

Just some friendly advice.

Feel free to PM me what happened. I'm always up to reading a good story :)

Although I wouldn't recommend posting the thing on here because everyone will just criticize you, based on past experiences from what I've seen.

I think you should do something about it...

Call the park and honestly tell them your story, with no exagerations and/or a poor attitude. It can't hurt to try!

Yes, Hopman, I would also like to read your story if at all possible.

Thanks, and sorry to hear about your bad luck

I want to here it also.

Let's Get Weird.

Just the fact that it's a 13 year-old girl makes me believe it was a false complaint.

Probably a stupid dare from her friends and she didn't realize it could get somebody fired...

I had a guest file a false complaint against me back in '02. My ATL talked to me about it and said that he told the guest there was NO way it could have been me, he knew how much I loved working at CP, on Raptor, how much everyone liked me (crew and guests) and how courteous I was to everyone. He assumed it was a false complaint and asked me about it.

I immediately knew who it was - not a guest, but some idiots who had an ancient grudge and were trying to get me fired.

The definitive word was "trying"--
didn't work!

As for you Hopman, if it truly was a BS complaint than you should have really tried to prove your innocence. But I have to agree with Ben. Prove yourself to management, don't air it here because it will certainly not get you any points. JMHO since I've been there!

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?

That is really wrong that your supervisor did not even give you the chance to explain your side of the story. Why would they just take the word of a random guest like that? Did you have some kind of interaction with this 13 year old that could have been misconstrued on her part, or is this someone you never even physically encountered?

I see you worked Group U in 05, is that where you were working this year when you got fired? I cannot imagine what someone working Group U could have possibly done to a guest. You don't even really interact with them at all, not the way rides, merch, and food people do. I'm also familliar with your bosses, so I'm even more puzzled that they would just let you go without trying to be fair. This must be a rather complicated situation.

I really wanna know what happened as well. They can't fire you without hard evidence that says you did something wrong.

PM me the story, ive been in a situation like that as well at my job.

Is it just me, or is this the "way of the park" now? I seem to be hearing a lot of stories similar to this. And what's the thinking behind "a 13 year-old doesn't have any reason to lie?"

They can fire you for whatever the hell they want to. Ohio is an At-Will state, and as such, your employment can be ended by any reason except those protected by law (such as discrimination). The head of HR at Geauga Lake basically told me the same thing once when I got into an argument with her. She was right. Luckily, I kept my job.

Ohio is an at-will state unless you've signed a contract that states otherwise. I've never worked at CP so I don't know if you have to actually sign a contract that states terms of employment or whether they just hire you. If they just hire you, then Avalanche Sam is correct and they can fire you for any reason. If you're under contract and you can prove they violated the terms of that contract in firing you unjustly, then you may have a legitimate case for breach of contract, but otherwise just let it go.

Just like you shouldn't judge without Hopman's side of the story, you shouldn't come down on the park without hearing their side. And you never will, of course, but without all the facts it's really easy to make false assumptions.

Haha, legal action? Well, get my $600 bonus, and my coworkers $700 bonus, while you're at it. They never came...

No, it was this year (2006) and I was working in Hotel Breakers. On the other side, they fired about 200 people last week for BS reasons.

Don't worry, I'm sure they can get an illiterate oaf or Guatamalan refugee to take your place.

As much as everyone complains about the lack of high-quality employees, there always seem to be these stories.

I'm supportive of your posting this. This is a legitimate issue at CP, and there's no shame in discussing it.

See, this is a prime example why we NEED unions in this country still. So many major companies are anti-union. It's only because the union protects the employee from being unjustly fired, as well as many other benefits.

It's the new generations that are bringing the unions down and so many are decert'ing. There's too many bosses out there that should be on some type of mood altering medication that can get something up their ass and up and fire you for no reason.

Again, you're only hearing half of the story.

Unions also make it difficult or even illegal to fire employees that need to be given the boot. Just ask my dad who for 21 years had to do the job of all the union employees under him who refused to work and couldn't be fired.
