How'd you find out about CP?

Hey guys! I'm new to the board, and just wondered how everybody found out about the Amazement Park, Cedar Point. I remember in 2001 i was watching the Discovery Channel and they were showing a top ten coasters special. I was always into coasters so this was holding my attention, and then they showed Millennium Force, which at the time was the tallest roller coaster in North America. "Wow, we should go there" I said to my family and they all agreed. So from 2001 to 2003 i researched everything and got to know every nook and cranny of CP. By the time i finally got to the park in May of 2003, I probably could've told you the opening date and length of each coaster before i even went there! (which I prolly still could do) Anywho, how'd everybody else get turned onto the Point?

Back in 1997 I went to Cedar Point for the first time. I was the kind of person who enjoyed watching the rides, but I'd never go on them. I tried Iron Dragon and I wouldn't ever go on it again. Mine Ride was just about all I would go all the way to 2002. I became a Cedar Point juckie around that time and was very much into the building of Wicked Twister. So in July of 2002 I finally got the guts to try out Millennium Force. I also got a ride on Wicked Twister. After that you couldn't get me off the ride. I still can't believe that I actually wanted to leave early back in 1997. I now want to be there every second of the day. It's like there is something in the park that makes me obsessed with the place.

Opening Day - May 8, 2004 :) It's coming

Keep Arms Down, Head Back, and Hold On!!

A girl I was dating had a cousin from eastern Europe who was working there for the summer. Labor Day weekend 2001 my (now ex) gf asked me if I would ride with her to pick up her cousin and bring her back to Rochester, where she'd stay a few days with the family before heading back to Europe. I said "sure, sounds like a fun road trip." I'll never forget coming across that causeway and seeing the CP skyline for the first time! It made the 6 hour trip in a Geo Metro very worthwhile. Of course my heart sank when we got to the gate and saw the sign saying that MF was closed (the train was stuck at the top of the hill) but we still had a ball that day. I proceeded to spend all of 2002 trying to figure out how I would get back there that summer, but my car died. 2003 was my first year with multiple trips to the Point, and my wife's first trip was this past summer. It's kinda our place we like to go...

But then again, what do I know?

Ahh yes... in the begining. For all of my years I have lived in the immediate area surrounding Toronto. The only options that are really promoted are Paramount Canada's Wonderland, and occaisionally SF Darrien Lake. When Superman went up I finally took notice. Id first like to point out how PCW is really a nice looking and for the most part run park. The rides on the other hand are mostly a dissapointment. Vortex, an arrow suspended coaster and quite simply put it IS the best one I have been on. Short in ride length compared to Iron Dragon but a much more enjoyable ride. PCW also has Drop Zone. A 230ft drop tower that I enjoy much more than Power Tower. Enough of that! These are the only 2 reasons I have for going to Wonderland.

In 2001 I organzied a trip of myself and 3 friends to make a day trip to Darrien Lake. The road entrance into the park is the worst I have EVER seen in my life for ANY location where people culminate. Superman was AWESOME. First time ANY of us had even seen a hyper coaster. As we were driving up the road to get to the park all we could see is this coaster that was easily double the height of any coaster we had ever seen. We really didn't like the park itself all that much but Superman made up for it. As soon as I returned from SF:DL I started looking into all of it's alternatives. I had been bitten by the coaster bug. After some looking around it seemed that everwhere I went, the web sites would make some mention to a place called Cedar Point. Always in a good regard. Found out where it was, and it would be a 6-7 hour drive. We could do this!

We had the most amazing time at CP in 2002 that we came back in 03' Dragster was broken both days :( Going back this year May 17th and 18th. Best time. Best Park.

My first trip to CP was in 1988. I was young, yet heard so many stories about the place. My family and I stayed at Hotel Breakers. I was used to the more traditional parks like Conneaut Lake and my own Idora Park right here in Youngstown. CP truely "amazed" me as a kid and still today. It wasn't till later I was a thrill seeker, but CP's rides really impressed me like Gemini, Demon Drop, and Giant Wheel. When I visited the park last year, I was thinking how hard to believe the place has come in 15 years.

My parents brought us for the first time back in the early '70s. Blue Streak was the big deal back then. Been going ever since then.

"If we go any faster, she'll blow apart for sure!"

It was 1966 and my father and mother took my younger brother and I for the first time. Blue Streak was the largest coaster there, but I was afraid of coasters at the time.

We went every year after that first trip. I used to collect newspapers for recycling from fall through late spring to earn money for the annual trip.

I first heard of the place when I lived in CT, and my friends who often traveled between there and MN used to stop at the Po!int on the way every time they made the trip. After I moved to OH, my family made our first trip to the Po!nt in July of '98. Back then, I wasn't much of a roller coaster rider, but I became hooked on the place. After a few more trips, I became a "coaster freak" and have tried to make a trip to CP whenever I could.

I got the word about CP from my sister. We live in KY and it was during the off-season of 00 when MF was being built. She had found out all the hype surrounding this ride and told me about it. I then did a little research and dug out my atlas and blindly went on a road trip to Sandusky. I stopped by PKI for a day first then headed on up to CP the following. I didn't know the best route, the right time to get there, or anything. I just headed out. I got to the park around noon or so and by that time, the TTR line was backed up about as far as one could imagine. I waited it all out and got my first lap in on MF during the 2-3pm time slot. Since then, it's been an infatuation. :)

My uncle mentioned something in 1996 about a park near him that had built a stand-up rollercoaster (he lives in Toledo), but I didn't really think too much about it. Then at the start of 2002 I applied to BUNACs Work America programme, and Cedar Point was in the job directory. I looked on the website, jaw dropped at the sight of the coasters, and the rest is history.

Lets see, I came into this world in Early 1982. My first trip would have been that August. Probably just rode the carousel with my mom or somethign like that. Now when I first started recognizing the place was probably between then and sometime during 1986. Come to think of it, I've probably been to CP for 22 Straight Years, and haven't missed a year since I was born. Good record I think. Grew up about 50 miles away. Had parents who both had parents who like to picnic at CP before the amusement park. So I guess for me it's more like heritage, than what this question asked.

In 1990 I was in 4th grade at a Catholic School and that's when they start recruiting altar servers for the Church. I joined because I wanted to do it, but it wasn't until after I joined that I found out that each summer (in July I believe) the servers take a trip to Cedar Point.

That first year I didn't go on much, I think maybe Disaster Transport and maybe Iron Dragon. I just remember DT having some of the coolest theming, waiting in line for that ride was just as much fun as riding the ride.

A couple years later Raptor came out and I fell in love with it and always go on it several times every time I visit. I think that's when I got really hooked on CP was with the introduction of Raptor, something about it just screamed that it was mine.

Back in the 70's for me....Parents often took us...Back when the Blue Streak & Mine Ride were imposing structures and the Jumbo Jet was the king of speed....

Uh... been going there since I was born. Probably the case for most people in Cleveland. The funny thing is that growing up you just kind of assume that everyone had a Cedar Point near by.

What time does the water show start?

I knew nothing about it until I found a summer jobs website and it had a link to Cedar Point. Never stepped foot into the place until my first day at work. :)

When I was a kid in VA, we went to Kings Dominon a lot. I read about the Beast in Kings Island and always wanted to go there. When I was in college, our family finally decided to take a trip out to PKI. I was talking to a buddy from MI about it and he told me about CP and Magnum. We changed plans and I still have not been to PKI. My first trip to CP was in 1995.
I went for the first time on a class trip back in 7th grade (1995), but at that time I still wasn't into roller coasters so the only one I rode was Iron Dragon. A few years later (1998), I went with school again and I was a little more into coasters since I had gone on a few at Great America while visiting family in Illinois the year before. I pretty much ended up just going with a group of friends onto rides and ended up riding Gemini, Magnum, and Raptor. After that, I started to really like coasters, and once Millenium Force was built, I started going to CP as often as possible.

It's Stanley Cup time! Let's Go Red Wings!!
Less than 1 month till opening day!!

My dad was in the Navy, so we moved alot around the US. The only vacations we ever took were to see my grandparents back in Mansfield, Ohio. Every summer that we went to Mansfield included a day trip to Cedar Point. My first visit was in 1975. I have a photo of myself with my mom and brother, standing in front of the Paddle Wheel Cafe, and also one of me on the dunebuggies in Kiddie Kingdom. I also have photos of the Bicentennial floral arrangements under the Sky Ride in '76. Let's see... my trips were once each in 1975, 1976, 1978, 1983, 1985, 1987, 1991, 1992, 1994, 1995, 1996 (CoasterMania), 1998 (Halloweekends), 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002 (3x), 2003 (3x).

From 1983-1992, I was driving up from Orlando, FL. Since 1994, I've only had to drive from Kenosha, WI, and have been a season pass holder since 2002. Funny thing is... now that my grandparents have either moved away, or passed away, or both... I have nothing in Ohio to go back to to call "home". Being in a military family greatly dilutes the sense of home, since you don't stay in the same one for very long. I have to say that Cedar Point is the only consistant place that I can go back to and say, "I remember this from when I was five years old." It means a lot.

My high school band made the trip every year to march down the midway and spend the rest of the day in the park. Then my college government group went every spring. Now my husband is hooked and we make the 3 hour trip at least 8 times each season, usually camping at Bayshore overnight.
My family moved to Sandusky in 1976. Before that we went to Idora park every summer when we visited our grandparents in Youngstown.
