I had an extremely great opening day! 95% of the new employes were very nice! The only issue I had was not being able to ride Dragster due to the many mechanical issues. Although I'll be their again next weekend so it wasn't a big problem. I was curios to see how all of your trips were! So how were they!??
I can tell you that Dragsters turbulent opening had very little to do with mechanical issues. There were a few small problems, but nothing that shouldn't be expected after 6 months of not running. The majority of that 9 hour delay was something else entirely. So that also answers the question. What did I do opening day? I waited 7 hours for Dragster to open (9 hours if you count from the time I got to the Resort Gate to when I rode). But I set out to do something and I did.

I actually wondered out loud on Saturday about how much time you spent waiting around for Dragster to open.

Yea i saw you waiting and i was going to go say hi, but i wasn't 100% positive it was you! Next time i'll make sure to say hi! Did you at least get front row!?? :)
7 hours for one ride? Yikes. They could build a 1,000 foot coaster that took 10 minutes to ride and I wouldn't wait 3 hours...let alone 7. I give you credit for your persistence.

I got stuck on a TTD train bc of a sensor issue saturday night, and that was not even that long of a wait. I was also mad bc I didnt get a rollback, it went right over the top that time.
I'm a very patient person when comes to rides. But trust me, it's still not as bad as the 12.5 hrs I waited for Maverick in the rain in 08. Though it was my stubborn friends who are at fault for that one. We never rode and I spent the whole day trying to convince them it wasn't going to open.
If I knew there was no chance of Dragster opening on Saturday, then I wouldn't have waited. But I knew it was going to happen so I just powered through it. I wasn't the only one who was there for those 7 hours so I'm not entirely as pathetic as some might think. But when I say I'm the biggest fan, people shouldn't expect anything less.

I was impressed with the guest on opening day this year. They were very patient, with all the issues with rides, and weather.
I had a slow day, 11 rides in all. Most waits were 40 minutes.
Cedar Point seemed very understaffed, but all the workers seemed friendly. Happy to have a job.
Saw lots of Line Jumpers, Smokers in lines.
But I got the best ride on Magnum, in the fog, over the 1st and 2nd hills. They need to add a fog element at the top of Magnum, so you don't know where the ground is.. That was pretty awesome.
I give opening day, a 85% successful experience. - Making plans to go back sunday... then maybe the week after that. :)
GATEKEEPER-I came, I rode, I was mildly disappointed; until a second ride (rear left) put GateKeeper back on the...it's a nice ride list.
That 7 hour wait was crazy, longest I've waited. The wait seemed more tolerable since the group was cool and we had fun talking about nerdy coaster things ahaha.

Unfortunately I did not make it out there for opening day, but did make it down for Sunday. The weather was not kind at all, windy and rainy. The only coasters that were up was Maverick, Corkscrew and Iron Dragon. We are pretty regulars to the park so not much being opened didn't disappoint us to much because we will be back down numerous times this summer. I will say that Windseeker does look pretty intimidating, but I cannot wait to get on.
GO IRISH!!
I saw you also, Adam. My cousin and I was walking past TTD when itfirst started testing around 1. We waited about 2 hours and then wefinally gave up. Later in the day I heard the director of rideoperations talking on the phone about not being able to open it if thetower is not visable. (Which most of the time, due to fog, it wasn't.)
Wefinally got our ride in at about 10:30 that night. We were the lasttrain before it broke down again, and we never saw it launch after wegot off.
As for the rest of the day, nearly every ride we gotin line for broke down. We waited about 10 minutes for Mantis until wesaw it was only in one-train operation so we left. The park was fairlycrowded until the school groups left around 6 and then it was dead.
We had fun. King's Island this weekend! :)

Yeah it was a pretty good day, and I think the rain scared away some people. I was most suprised by the fact that Mean Streak didn't hurt.

I was one of the people that waited 7 hours for Dragster to open up.It really didnt seem that long.

Time passes when you have enjoyable people to spend the time with. :D
And while the fog is "suppose" to be a "down for weather" type of deal, there are always exceptions. Just depends on how park ops is feeling. I doubt they cared for very long for Dragster on saturday. If it rolled back it rolled back. Not much you can do beyond that besides letting the computer do its stuff. Upper level fog doesn't really inhibit the ride from running anyway so I don't see the need to stop operating it. :)

I went on Sunday and to be honest, was rather disappointed. It's our first time going with Platinum Passes and we were excited about enjoying the park. We've only been to CP once before - last yr for Halloweekend which was crazy busy.
I put together a touring plan and everything. We weren't planning for too many major rides because my son doesn't do rides much and my daughter is only 9 and just getting into it.
Many rides were closed. Or if they were open, it was on and off with lots of breakdowns. In the afternoon I gave up having any sort of touring plan and just hopped on rides whenever I saw something that was open. Switching strategies like that meant we actually started riding instead of walking. We did a handful of flat rides and a small handful of coasters like Corkscrew, Iron Dragon, Mine Ride, and Maverick.
I fully expected a number of rides to break down, close, etc. Particularly since there was a light drizzle all day. But it was getting a little ridiculous how many rides we weren't able to do.
I would love to know how much this had to do with the weather vs the fact it was opening weekend. If this happens everytime its a bit drizzly, I think I'll avoid going on rainy days in future. CP is 2 hours away so while it's not a major trip, it's still a bit of a trip and honestly, if I would have known that many rides would be down, I wouldn't have gone yesterday and just waited for another time. I expected some rides to be down, but there were a LOT of rides down and it really hampered our enjoyment of the park.
Still, we kept up a positive attitude (after I gave my dd a lecture for whining about not riding all morning) and had an overall good time. Just not a great time, kwim?

I went yesterday, and I think the issue was more the wind and not the rain. At least that was the case with most of the rides I saw not open. At least everyone left the park by the end of the night, so the Ride Ops of Corkscrew were nice enough to allow re-rides. My friend and I were able to get six laps in a row without anyone else ever getting in line.
Most of the rides that were down yesterday was indeed due to wind. After riding Maverick and a FEW other things, I decided to cut my loses and make an early ride home. My advice to you elainesj is to wait a few weeks after opening weekend to go to the point if you don't want to be disappointed. Because usually the weather is better and the rides are running more smoothly. Though if the weather wasn't as bad as it was yesterday, there probably would have been many more rides running.
A cold, wet and windy day after opening day isn't the best combination. Sorry to hear about the amount of planning you put into the day.
