Definitely bring enough money for you to be able to eat and buy other neccessities for 3 weeks, or a month.
A couple thousand, that should hold you over or at least get you robbed.

Ride on, MrScott!
It depends on how much you plan to spend on food, gas, and other necessities. You can usually get lunch in the employee cafe for $5.
All things considered, I bet you could get away with as little as $300 but you might want to increase your "margin of safety".

You will need enough money for 2 to 3 weeks depending on when you process in. I suggest 15 to 20 dollars a day. The pay periods are as follows:
Work anytime between 4/16-4/29 Payday is 5/4
Work between 4/30-5/13 Payday is 5/18
Work between 5/14-5/27 Payday is 6/1
Work between 5/28-6/10 Payday is 6/15
Work between 6/11-6/24 Payday is 6/29
Pay periods end on Sundays and Payday is five days later on Friday. I hope this helps everyone!
I don't get it...it's called a bank account and you can access your money anywhere. Do people just not use them? There is also a wonderful thing called credit, and people are just dying to loan you money.
Having money to cover your expenses is smart. Open a checking account and get a debit card.
Going into debt for your expenses is not smart. Don't fall into the credit card trap.
Be sure not to make the mistake that I did my first two weeks at the point. I had about 2 dollars to last me for two weeks.. I bought 10 ears of corn and 10 cans of chicken soup... I ate as much as I could at parties and "liberated" as many beer cans and bottles as I could. I actually lost a bunch of weight as I was hungry all of the time. I did get to drink soda at work, so I was full of energy during the day.
Thank God for laundry services at the time. They could get out ANY stain from my uniform. By the end of the two weeks I was wearing my uniform inside out to ride rides as it saved on doing laundry.
I drank plenty of water as it is free and available.
Riding "Blue Thunder" or hitching rides was the norm in 1980. There were plenty of times that park patrons gave me a ride. I met a lot of folks and saved a lot of money doing that. I guess it is not real safe to do that now, so it is not recommended. Catching the bus was always a hassle because of overcrowding and late runs. In fact it was preferable to hitch a ride with a park guest as opposed to riding the bus.
