How many international employees at CP?

Having once worked at CP two years ago, and at another CF park three years ago, I noticed something very interesting.

It seems that based on a recent visit to the CF park near where I am, there is a HUGE increase in the number of employees from foreign countries. I knew there were quite a few back then (I met a few of them at the Sandusky Public Library emailing their families), but it seems like almost half of them this year are international.

At a visit a month ago to the Six Flags park near Chicago, it seemed like there were millions of Bulgarians working there; so much so I think they should rename that park Six Flags Great Bulgaria :)!

Since I haven't been back to CP since I last worked there (I am too far away from Ohio), can anyone tell me about how many 2001 CP employees are international? Are most of them working in foods, which sometimes seem to be the case? What countries are represented.........any Russians perhaps (personally interested in Russian culture myself)? Anybody here notice?
I had heard that, at one point, they had offered 1,000 contracts to foreign kids. Don't know if that is legit or not. I do know that for the last couple of years a couple of park representatives have gone overseas to do face-to-face recruiting. How would you like to have that job?

The foreign employees (I think the company is called BUNAC) have been a godsend to Cedar Point in terms of staffing.

I have heard the SFWOA is also using a similar program with mixed results. They promised those kids "all the hours you want" and due to poor attendance, they are cutting the hours WAY back. Not too mention they charge them steep rent for housing near Kent State and transportation costs to and from the park! *** This post was edited by Chief Wahoo on 7/29/2001. ***
I don't know how many for sure either..... Let's just say...... too many.
Ah, xenophobia ...

No, that's not a town in Ohio!
Yes, I have seen many Russian employees, expecially in the food department.

Too many? Why? What difference does it make? At least the foreign kids appreciate what they're making and have a good work ethic. That's more than I can say for the bulk of American kids these days.

Well said Jeff! Many of the foreign kids have an outstanding work ethic, not to mention the exotic hotness that the eastern European ladies have about them. I say get more of 'em. Me likes. ;)

Personally, I don't mind foreign people, just as long they can speak English. But they have to get foreigners because it seems like its becoming more difficult to get Americans to work at CP. As for the comment about the work ethic, I agree with that. My roommate was a server at Friday's On The Beach and all he did was complain about how he hated his job. I would have loved to see him working in a warehouse or cleaning restrooms.
I would have to agree.  When I worked there you could tell that the foreign workers worked a lot harder and longer than most of the Americans, note I said most not all.  I will admit they worked harder than I did.  They would sometimes work O-C for a week because they wanted the hours.  Several of our crew members would goto Magnum or Troika during their split and work there to get more hours.  They worked a lot harder, with less complaining, and for that I give them a lot of credit.

I'm 16 years old Jeff and I take offense to that quote. It seems like whenever adults get the chance, they just blame it on the youth of America.

I'm currently working a job that requires me to work 25-30 hours a week. I make $5 per hour. As many of you know, that's NOT minimum wage. Ask anyone I've every worked with or for, I never complain about my job.

Every single dime I make goes toward Car insurance and gas. My insurance, being a male teenager, is over $150 a month. I've never had a ticket, never been pulled-over, and never been in an accident. Gas in my town is $1.49. Let's do the math:

$500 per month in wages

- $280 in gas per month

- $150 in insurance

------------------------------

$70 left over from $500. No wonder kids don't like work. What's the point? I've been yelled at before for just asking if a day at the park was Gay Pride Day so understand why I don't like it when people make rude comments towards me or my generation.

ddogg,

There is an exception to everything and perhaps you are the exception.  I give you credit for buying your own car and paying the insurance yourself but you are the exception.

I hired kids at Cedar Point for 4 years and the work ethic got worse tenfold every season.  A common quote was, "You want ME to pick up trash?"  -or- "You can't tell me what to do!"

The foreign (BUNAC) workers were hands down better than the majority of American workers.  It wasn't even close.

My statement was based on the fact that many American kids don't need to work, and much of what they need is provided for them. That's more of a reflection on the parents than the kids.

If you're making less than minimum wage, you really should give the department of labor a call, because that isn't legal.

Wow Jeff; you sure seem to be a pro at tarring and feathering others here!
I did check with the Dept. Of Labor. As long as I'm below the age of 18, they don't have to pay minimum wage.

He became a pro replying to dumb people like me!

If you are under 20 you may be paid as little as $4.25 but only for the first 90 days of employment. State law may require more, depending on where you live.

There are several employeers that will pay 16 years old minimum wage.

Also, where do you drive that you spend $280 bucks a month.  If your car got 20 miles to the gallon, and you paid $1.49 a gallon, you could drive 3700+ miles a month.  You could drive from Toledo to Sandusky every day for the month.
