How Many Are Really Online?

Gomez's avatar

When I first started here, I think half my post were deleted. It took a while to get to know the way things go around here.

It's the new people who come on here who think they know everything. Some can't take criticism and they retaliate with post that make them sound dumb. Just take the criticism from Jeff or who ever else and take it into to account next time. If you have a grammar error, fix it. Posting new topics is something you should wait a long time to do. If you have a question, search past topics before you make a new one.

I can't believe I joined this site in Nov. 2002 (under a different name).

I've looked back and I read my first post, it has no grammar at all. It was like someone stole my shift key and didn't give it back for a few weeks. Then I eventually got used to the way things worked. Now I've been here for over a year and like it a lot.

Using the search feature is a good idea. Sometimes reading past posts offers even more help than getting current feedback. Waiting a long time to start a topic is generally a good idea, but obviously not neccessary. Just remember to think, chances are what you are thinking/wondering have already been discussed.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I got a suspension in my first month on the site. I still remember getting chastised by Dave and Mr. Scott, but I grew up, learned the ways of the Pointbuzzer, and evantually fit in (I don't think you guys mind me too much.) I remember hating you when you first signed up Vince, me and you got into a little round about something, I can't quite remember. Now, I consider you one of the more insightful posters onto this site. We might not accept you with open arms on this forum... but it's not nearly as bad as the rounds they give the new users on Coasterbuzz, they bite into those guys hard sometimes.

Well, when I joined I knew how everything worked because I read pretty much every topic, lurked a lot, and got used to the way things work.

I never posted though, until I saw that there were canadians here...

I joined up because I like Cedar Point, and because I was tired of just reading and I wanted to contribute my thoughts and opinions.

And good/bad grammer is not important to me, I just do it so people understand me, if I can't read somebody's post, I ignore it.

So seriously, how many people are really online?

What I can't believe is that there are new members that have more posts then I do, and I have been a member for over a year now. What amazes me is that new members have to post for a topic, even of they have nothing important to say. I am on this site for maybe a total of two hours a day (Yes, I need a life.) and have a lot to say, but I don't. I just read what others say and learn. Going back to the problem about new members posting "stupid" comments. I noticed we all did that. I went back and looked at my previous posts and started laughing.

Have I mentioned "Posting and You" lately?

I was in stitches the first time I saw that.

It should somehow be a training video that any new member HAS to watch. That would be great. :)

I forgot all about that. Yes, that should be required viewing for every new member. :)

I have to say, this site is very welcoming of new members. In my eyes, easily the most welcoming I've come across, actually. As others stated, the first impression lays the ground work for how you'll be treated here, for the most part. For instance, when I first came here, I knew everything, and I didn't take well to being told otherwise, which made my first few days here pretty miserable. The people here were still civil and welcoming toward me, though its taken a lot of effort since then to be taken seriously. Follow the advice of those who offer it, because they're usually trying to help. Try not to take things personally, because this is just a message board, after all.

I'm probably not the person to take advice from. You see, I have what doctors call a little bit of a "patience problem." (I'm sure if you read some of my old posts, that will become quite evident... In fact, I'd be willing to bet that I'm one of the people Walt had in mind when me mentioned "vigilante moderators". :))

The bottom line is to remember that while this is a message board, treat it as you would any real-life encounter. Treat everyone with respect, take advice, and try to contribute positively toward relevant conversation. When in doubt, hang back and observe. Thats the easiest way to get a true understanding of the community here.

Welcome to PointBuzz! :)

OMG STEAM ROXX0RZ the big one!!!111

I love that video.

I also think Walt had a very heartfelt post up there. I think this community is very open to anyone who can create intelligent conversation and use proper english.

The good old days djDaemon.

<Matt>
101 on Magnum and counting...

Since this isn't worth making a new board for, and sorta kinda fits under this I'm gonna ask:

Why is it when I am logged in the window that tells who is on I am not shown to myself? Is it like that for everyone? IN djDaemon's screenshot his name is in it, so why doesn't mine show up?

Summer was made for a Cedar Point day~

^I think it's like that for everyone.

Hey Folks! I'm relatively new to this site as well, and I guess I have just jumped in without an introduction or invitation, so I'm sorry.

Anyhow, I just wanted to chime in on the politeness issue. I have seen what I interpret as being disparaging or downgrading remarks by some. Not all were meant that way, but even if you don't mean to be "mean", please think about what you write. Much of interpersonal communication is physical, i.e. body language, and knowing the other person's mannerisms, etc. So just because you didn't mean anything, doesn't mean it wasn't taken the wrong way and was offensive. Read the tone of your input and go the extra mile to make sure you don't come off wrong. By the way, I'm sincerely sorry if I have not practiced what I just preached, I have never knowingly entered a disparaging remark.

Hey, I don't want to wish my life away, but only 3 weeks from today!

CPTT - My name shows up just fine when I look at it. Could be that you have something set to login anonymously.

Goodbye MrScott

John

Seems to be okay now. I can now see that I am indeed online; not that I need to...

After my first post, I was welcomed quite warmly:

Grady said: Congrats on the first post Raptorboy, keep all of them as well formatted as that one and you will get along fine here. ;)

That's about as warm of a welcome that you can get.
