How Long will Dinosaurs Alive Stay?

Kevinj's avatar

I'm not talking about you, personally, Shades, but families overall. This isn't anything new we haven't discussed again and again here.

My kids are 1 and 5. They may be adrenaline junkies in their own right, but can't ride anything at CP.

Frankly, we've branched out, and are now giving most of our "vacation" monies to other parks that are much more appealing to us as a unit. There's just simply nothing for us to do there as a family.

Well, "nothing" is too strong; less and less. It's going to take more than one dark ride to balance the scales. I hope there's a moratorium on coasters for at least 7 years or so, with a sole, sole focus on family rides (not this vague "attraction" category that the Flintstones Alive attraction falls into).

People can bitch and moan about it all they want, which I don't understand since you don't have to go see it, but as long as people are dropping five-spots, it's going to hang around.

I agree that it's not going anywhere anytime soon, Jeff...it's obviously achieving its goal, and as long as that payoff comes in the form of a more balanced park, I'm all for it.

A little bitch here, a little moan there. No harm done. :)

Besides, I B & M'ed (that's funny) about Disaster Transport for years...and look!

Poof. Gone.

It seems to me that as the attraction got older they might make it something that was free to pass holders, still a pay extra for other guests, and eventually maybe even become free for everyone.. Still can imagine large amounts of money to be made in the Dino gift shop area. But this could only happen if the Dino company that provides for the majority of the attraction would allow it obviously. (By in a long time, I mean maybe after that 5 year contract is up). By that time I think the Dino's will have fallen out of favor, because they simply are so common as was previously stated. If that is the case, the Dino company would be much more likely to settle with the gift shop only deal, especially because the equipment is already installed and worn.

For what it's worth, I noticed the Dinosaurs Alive at Kings Island not only expanded this year, they also added a "season pass" option. For $12, you could purchase a ticket that was good for the entire season.

So is the Cleveland Zoo, the attraction Dinosaurs! is back for the sixth time. They took a break from the dinosaurs for the last two years because they had the new Elephant Crossing exhibit to promote. With nothing really new this year, the dinosaurs are back.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

I would take that as a sign that it is losing a bit of popularity, at least at KI.

I work at a Science Center for the past 4 years and we have had a dino exhibit on and off 4 times already.

I just think why can't Dino's be dead already, but there is a problem birds have Dino DNA in them so they will never be dead until the birds go away.

I'd say at least 5 years. Check back in 2016.

Well, when the Dinos' time is up, what about something like a Tom Sawyer Island/fort/pirate kind of thing? I know it'd be hard to avoid seeing the rides there but something to make the most of the island and water atmosphere and theme. I don't really even know what it looks like back there because we aren't going to see the dinosaurs. Idlewild in PA has a "Jumpin' Jungle" that is like a big play area for both adults and children.

Here's a picture of part of it:

But then again, the older folks are being closed out with a Jumpin Jungle. I don't see too many grandparents at Cedar Point anymore either.

Once Dinosaurs Alive is gone I want to see a B&M Dive Machine. 'Nuff Said.

The god of speculation

^Given the recent B&M trend anything could happen, but I'd be surprised if the park ever gets one. But one would be cool. I still want to see a woodie there.

In looking at a birdseye view of CP on Bing maps, I just don't see how they'd cram another coaster on that island with two other rides already there.

I think it's possible. I've also looked at it from Bing maps, and I forget which thread it was in, but I described a possible layout. It would have to twist around itself as well as Millennium Force a lot, but these types of woodies are really cool. I really do believe it could be pulled off.
