So I've been coming to CP since I was 7, and I've always thought it would be great to work there, unfortunately i live too far away to apply until I'm 18 and eligible for housing, but I was wondering, is working at CP really all its cracked up to be? I want to be a sweep, but I was wondering if some people who have been sweeps could tell me what its really like. I've also always wanted to be a Screamster, I've worked at several haunted houses and think its so so much fun.
Working at Cedar Point, like any other job, can have it's up and downs. There are a lot of us who love our jobs and have a lot of fun with our crews and the guests.
I find it's mostly about the attitude you take into it. If you go into it wanting to have a good time and look on the bright side even on your bad days then you will have a much better time than the people who don't.
here's a great job 1800USA NAVY lol jk
I had a friend that was a sweep for a weekend her real job was TTD ride host... she liked it bc she got to move around alot... but yea.... its a job... there are great days and crappy days...
same with the navy and any other job
hope that helps

Sweeps is a lot of time out in the sun, interacting with guests. You can imagine that some days may be more rough than others. I haven't worked it, but one of my roommates does.
Echoing what others have said, you will have some rougher days, and it's your attitude that determines whether or not you had a good time during the summer. I know some people who complain everyday about their job, and others who almost have nothing bad to say about it. The benefits are great, though, and CP does try to make it a good experience, but only you can decide whether or not it's fun.

It's awful. No overtime. And they stop paying you after you work 80 hours/week. And if they're understaffed and you need first aid, you're SOL.
Worst place I've ever worked in my entire life.

Have no clue how that's possible, but who knows with the way things work with the law. They changed it to every other week after I no longer worked there a few years back, but I still have my pride and joy of a paystub with 102 hours for one week on it with my various things I saved from my experiences there. I never really cared too much about the OT thing because I'd rather get 60-70 hours a week at one place then to try and schedule 2-3 jobs with travel to each of them.

It's up to the individual to make or break the experience as many have said. MANY people can't handle the hours, sun, weather in general, having to be NICE at all times to everyone. But the big thing is either being home sick or not handling the fact you work almost everyday and your home friends don't and brag about how much fun they are having constantly on twitter or FB. Everybody hits the wall at one point in the summer. And that goes from top of the management chain, right down the line. This covers the personal problem department. If you can't handle typical daily high school drama, you need not apply. It's only natural for 18-22 year olds to gossip and group up.
It's at that point when you know if this job is for you. If you start to complain daily about everything, your doomed. Nobody wants to hear it since they are doing the same job as you. So if you think your the only one that is depressed, underpaid, angry and fed up, your wrong. It's just time to 'man up' and get through the tough times. Because if you do, you will have a sense of membership into a club when it's your time to process out at the end of the season. I know my good times outnumbered the bad easily. While I no longer work there for years now, I still cherish the summers I had there and still talk to those who fought the 'wars' with me. My name 901liveson is from my love of all my roommates in the commons apartments in room 901. I think about maybe returning almost every year since I left. I do miss it, but have moved on.
Good luck with your choice!

But do you stop working after 80 hours in a week? Or are you saying you work more than 80 hours in a week, but are only paid for 80 hours?

Now I haven't worked there in about 4 years now but when in the 5 years that I did I worked a few 90+ hour weeks and was paid for every minute. That is a little against the law to have someone work and not pay them for it and I don't think CP is in the business of doing that.
GO IRISH!!
as with any job, CP has it's up's and downs but overall it is a GREAT place to work and you will meet some of the best friends you'd never meet otherwise. you work long hours, and you may not make the best money, but the memories and fun will last forever. honestly, you're not going to find another job where you have as much fun as you do here. i've never been a sweep, but regardless of position i've heard from everybody if you look on the bright side of things you will never regret working here!

Keep in mind, as this is a forum primarily frequented by Cedar Point Fanboys and girls that you may get somewhat of a homogeneous opinion here. Basically, the folks who answer these posts (particularly here in the employee lounge) are the folks who have succeeded as employees and who like the atmosphere. I am an exception, as I loved CP growing up and have hated to see the direction the park has gone in during the Kinzel years. I also have worked at CP, but washed out fairly quickly. (For the record, I run a business and have held lots of other jobs, so it's not just me...)
Anything you enjoy about being a guest at CP will probably not apply as an employee. You may get sick of the park in a hurry and the "politics" get old real quickly. You are given very little authority to think for yourself, although it's possible Matt Ouimet may change this, as he did at Disneyland. Basically, a lot of good people who succeed and thrive at other workplaces do not fit in at Cedar Point. Only you can decide whether it's for you or not. But I think, by nature, a lot of folks here may be wearing rose colored glasses.
"Forgiveness is almost always easier to obtain than permission."
honestly everything about working at CP is what you make of it; there's some people who what great attitudes about everything and they love it and there's some people who are always seeing the glass as half empty and they hate it. i honestly love everything about working at cedar point, down to the cranky quests that complain about the prices. the things you'll expriance working there are irriplacable! i wouldn't trade my expirence working there for the world and i honestly think it wouldn't hurt to give it a try!

If you want to hear what it's like being a sweep, I was a sweep for the 2010 season, and I can tell you all about it! It would probably be easier if you just messaged me about it, either on here or facebook.
