How High?

No, this isn't about the movie How High. I'm talking about roller coasters. How high do you think roller coasters can go. My guess is about 600 ft. What do you guys think?

I think the Roller Coasters can go as high as people want to make them. There will always be a record-breaking coaster and i am certain that Cedar Point will make that record-breaker!!

While I'm sure it is possible, it's hard to imagin falling from the height of the CN Tower!

As Cedar Point's already said, "The human body can withstand more."

And when exactly did they say that?

You got the money and the land, Intamin will build anything you want.

And after a season or two, some extra supports, etc., it'll eventually run well too!

And another season after THAT, they'll put proper restraints on. (Although to be fair, the system on Dragster is already nicely refined and sufficient)

I don't think you can really put limits on what this industry can do.

That's the beauty of it.

Coasters can only get so high, the speed of the descent could make people pass out if the heights are high enough. However, I think people in the future will be able to handle greater forces than we do now-a-days. I doubt someone from the 1800's could ride the Dragster without any trouble. So people have gotten used to rides being bigger and faster. Kids start off way younger now, making them comfortable to ride the bigger rides.

Another point is = what about sky divers or people who jump of stuff with bungee?

thats like way high than TTD!

I personally think that cedar point should try to build something more confined like a new concept ride.

or break a record in another way +for instance the "Son of Raptor" tallest and fastest inverted coaster.

or the highest and fastest dueling coasters and call it "Gemini Sr."

before i say this, im not trying to state this as a fact, just something i heard, it makes sense to me, just dont get mad:

I heard that cedar point can build anything up to 999' 11" because all the airspace has been cleared to cedar point. the only people that are allowed to fly directly over it is the lifeflight people (i heard this from one of the lifeflight people)

Wrong! The duration of forces acting on the body are the limitation. The height has nothing to do with it. Wildcat pulls more G's than Dragster.

The forces on a human body are only one of the restaints to bigger coasters. Let us not for get that the FAA has hieght restrictions and that a few states (and a few more in the works) already have laws limiting g forces. But the industry can make coasters that go really high and limit the G forces. But those coasters will take up a lot of land. I believe that eventually they will be at a good height. But for now just focus at what we have already.

I might have thought that coasters could get higher, but the speed would have to have some limit. Maybe some new kind of.... trim brake, for faster speeds?

is CP gunna built a new coaster next year?

The speed is limited anyway, it is called terminal velocity. I don't know how fast this speed would be because it is difficult to calculate and it could vary from coaster to coaster. I also recall them saying that. It was in an intervies last opening season about TTD. It is on one of the videos somewhere. Cp was asked if they planned on topping TTD someday and the man said No plans for now however "The human body can take more"

Who cares? They grant variances for those sort of things. Certainly you've been in downtown Cleveland, or Detroit, or Chicago...

Personally, I think the industy should quit worrying about height on coasters and work more on new concepts and new kinds of inversions, and stuff like that. Or build a coaster already 200 some odd feet in the air, and drop you from there, have it be a B&M and have some inversions and stuff like that, I think that'd be better than a 500ft tall coaster. Now I know that that would be a long walk from the ground to 200ft in the air, just an idea though.
