They have computers in the rec for you to use (atleast they did in 2011 when I stayed at Commons). I'm not really sure if they had webcams in case you were thinking about skyping with some people from back home. I brought my laptop, but my roommates were very trustworthy and didn't touch any of my stuff without asking. Everything I went to Sandusky with, I came back with the same amount. Nothing was stolen at all. Depending on how far you live from home as well, I would go for the first week or two to get to know your roommates, and if they seem cool, I would go home on my day off to hang with the family and bring the laptop back.
If you're staying in the Commons Dorms, just keep your laptop locked inside your locker when you aren't using it. As long as you keep your valuables locked up, you shouldn't have a problem.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
I wouldn't consider the 'computers' in the rec center reliable or even full fledged computers at all. They are (unless they upgraded them since last year) over glorified dumb terminals that are rather locked down....now regarding the wifi and general internet in commons/bayside/housing in general that HAS been improved (and from what I've heard and had heard plan wise) drastically improved from what it had been. Do keep in mind a few things: things will get stolen if they are not locked up and looked after, wireless more than likely will slow down (you have a mini city with about 85% or more people each using a wireless device), and you will be working a lot depending on where you DO work. Unless you're in the corporate offices or marketing...I wouldn't expect to have too much time to use your laptop in all honesty(as you'll more than likely be dragged to go out to Louie's or b'dubs or elsewhere)
