How good/bad is the internet there

First timer for the summer looking to take an online class. The few posts I've seen from last year complained that the internet in housing is horrible. Is it really that bad? If it hardly works in employee housing, what other options are there for internet access for someone without a car? There is a library in town but without a car that's not going to work. Any suggestions??

There is a McDonalds right across the street from housing with free WiFi...

Is the McDonalds WiFi free? It has been a while since I bothered to use it there but last last time I had to pay something like $3 for 2 hours.

How far of a walk is that from the common dorms? are they open 24/7?

The WiFi is super slow there though because there is always like 10 people trying to Skype

It's about a 2 minute walk. And from what I've heard, they're adding good wifi in all of the dorms. So worst case you have to walk to McDonald's, but you might not have to

You can go in castaway and use there's but sooner or later they will figure your an employee. As long your quite I don't see it as a problem especially late at night. Otherwise get a mobile hotspot virgin does a monthly as u go one if I rember and Verizon has 4g out there so there card should work good.

Yeah I currently use Tethering on my smart phone for internet access. It's not fast but it's ok for doing school work.
Just watch out if you just sign up they will hit you with a cap, usually around 2GB a month! So I would not recommend watching movies on it :)
I got grandfathered in to an unlimited plan which serves me well since this is my only access to the net.

Doesn't Donut Time have free wifi too?

Employees are not supposed to use the WiFi at Donut Time. All housing has some type of WiFi, mostly in the lobby's and after the park closes and everyone hops on at the same time, it get's real slow.

You can use donut times wifi only once the park is cleared out. But since their is so much going on during this time it is prefered that you do not. That doesn't mean that you won't see plenty of internationals out there that live in golds and cedars. If its one or two thats fine but if its a large group you will be asked to exit the park. Also with all the leaf blowers working and vehicle traffic you would have a very hard time doing your school work also the buses don't run all night.

I gave up on my online class when I worked there in 08. Between the internet being unreliable, working long hours, and having too much fun with the people I met at work, stressing about the class just wasn't worth it to me.
