I am one of the many people that want to go to Maverick Media day, but I know it's invitation only. How do you get that invitation? Do you have to have a connection to CP? If so, how would you get that connection? Thanks for your help in advanced.
I think that going to Media Day would be a good way to meet other coaster freaks, not just ride another roller coaster early.

Media days really aren't about coaster freaks. Not at all.
If that's what you're looking for, you would be bored to tears.
How many times has this come up and it's only December? If you want to go to media day, get a job with the media. People are working at these things to cover a story, and it involves a lot of sitting around for the riders.

Like Jeff said, it's event for working. Even though it may seem like it's all about fun, it's really not. It's purpose is to get the information out to the public about the ride's opening, not to allow people to marathon it. Don't get me wrong; it's a good time, but that's far from its purpose.

Yeah. Take your vision of media day and throw it into the trash. It's not like you'd ever expect. There's a lot of hurry up and wait going on.
It's called media day. It's for the media. It's when they show off to all media people around the world just how cool their new ride is.
What do you have to do to go to /media/ day? Be a part of the /media/!!
You don't have to be part of the media. You just have to know someone in the media. There were a LOT of people at Skyhawk's media day that weren't "media".
I'd still love to do media day. I know its not a marathon session (and would be a lot of waiting around, in the seats), but it would still be interesting to see all the reporters and live broadcasts and stuff.

Here's a tip to meeting other coaster freaks at a media day: make sure you go in full-on coaster gear. By this I mean your biggest logo'd t-shirt, sating jacket (with giant ACE embroidery on the back is a plus), and fanny pack.
Not only will other coaster freaks notice you and introduce themselves, but media crews will recognize you as a coaster "expert", and you're virtually guaranteed an interview.
Can I make up a magazine name and say that I'm the editor to make myself more credible?
Or will that not help with getting an interview?

By some feat of luck, I think I may make it this year. I'm in a media class at our high school and the teacher used to work at one of the cleveland stations, so he has the contacts to talk to someone at CP, and he wants to go up and do a story for our local news, which goes out every day after we record it during school. I know the odds are slim, but theres always a hope!

^^^^^ OKay, not necessarily directly, but the media community. That is, meaning that you are in or related to in some way someone in some sort of media position.
Happy? :)
Greg, you have more luck now than you would have in the past. Up until the last two years (it was still pretty well inforced with maXair, though), there was a losely based no school rule. This, however, seems to have changed in the last year or so. There were actually a number of schools at Skyhawk's Media Day. I don't know if that's directly proportional to the size of the ride, or not, or what caused this change though.

Thats good news!
I think the selling point I have is that we film news that goes out to the whole city and surrounding area, so it wouldn't be just our school, all of Mansfield and the cities around get our broadcast, which I think if they want people in Arizona to know, they might as well let everyone in Mansfield know too!
And what better person to let them know than me! :)

Let me give you guys my 2 cents worth being a part of the media.
Jeff is completely right, this is an event for working people to work, it just so happens to be it is one of the more fun assignments a person in the working media can get.
From the media days that I have attended (not CP), there were riders brought in, and media members were allowed a couple of guests (mainly kids) to ride the ride once most of the work was over. There is alot of waiting.
While it may seem like a great event to be invited to (which it is), it's not meant to be attended just so you may go around and tell others that you went. People are working and trying to make a living.
I will leave you with this to think about from the SOB accident last year. When the news was reporting the accident as breaking news, members of forums (not necessarily here) constantly ripped on the media for getting facts wrong and then when someone tries to explain their deadlines and how much time they actually had to report on the story, the responses were "well that's their job." Now that something fun comes along that is designed for the media, someone wants to go and be the media.

Be nice in your request, give them demographic information. Most parks will be very generous in allowing school media organizations to come in. Afterall, students are a huge part of the parks demographics and if you're serious about journalism, they will be working with you. Basically the journalism world is making connections and keeping them with you.
I know Walt and I plan to be working. Stay the hell out of our way. ;)

Jeff,
Does staying out of your way include saying hi to my two favorite webmasters? :)

Sorry to bring this back from the dead, but we got out "official" media day invitations today. They are these huge poster sized wanted posters with an awesome Maverick graphic. I will be there to cover the event for my station and would love to meet up with any of you lucky enough to be there.
I also have a few extra posters - PM me for details.
**EDIT: All of the posters have been claimed. Thanks!** *** Edited 4/25/2007 9:59:14 PM UTC by PREMiERdrum***
