I think that going to Media Day would be a good way to meet other coaster freaks, not just ride another roller coaster early.
Maybe you would want to join American Coaster Enthusiasts (ACE) or Great Ohio Coaster Club (GOCC) and then you can meet thousands of "coaster freaks". Coastermania is coming up in June along with Coaster EXT at Geauga Lake. Get involved with theses groups and you will meet a lot of coaster people.

Or try Coasterbuzz. It not only gets you into Coastermania, but Jeff also does a number of "Buzz" events throughout the year (BeastBuzz and BooBuzz come to mind). Its only 20 bucks for the whole year and gets you ad-free access to CoasterBuzz.

Is Media Day the day before the park opens (in this case May 11)?

It seems to me that it's typically been the Thursday before the park opens. So in this case, it would be on May 10.

No it is going to be May 10th so 2 days before the park opens.

Just so everyone knows... there will be a media event for Maverick this Thursday, May 31 from 5:30 to 8:30.

I was not expecting CP to actually do a media day, I thought they said it was cancelled this year?
Or, it's a move to distract the GP from Magnum's "horrifying, gut-wrenching, jaw-dropping, chaotic disaster of a wreck" incident. /sarcasm

From my source, Media day was set before the accident happened. I heard about it just before the Red Cross rides started on Saturday morning. So this is not a distraction tactic.

I missed that. But, even so, but some people might think that was true even though you were being sarcastic, so I was just trying to nip it in the bud.

This is true. I often give some people on these boards wayyy more credit.
It will be weird though, seeing Maverick all over the news...a week after it opened.

In '00 CP had AAA Day the day (or 2?) before MF's Media Day...so it's happened before!! :)

It's all about getting around the barrels, or over the fences, right leads, no faults, fastest time and looking pretty when done. What's so hard about that?
Because I'm sure everyone got a ride in this week.
It's still largely unridden. It's good to get some press on it.
It doesn't seem like the opening is widely known at work. The Post-Gazette in Pittsburgh just ran the story about it opening in June, after it opened.
Watch the morning shows tomorrow...
