Re-post for those newbies:
As a former Housing Supervisor for Cedar Point..a word of advice....I have many fond memories of Cedars dorm, both living and working there scanning those IDs...but I would not let my dog live there. The Victorian charm was lost a LONG time ago and fallen into utter disrepair. It is a fire trap.
HOWEVER: You "must" weigh your options. Honestly...how often will you truly be staying in your room? Long enough to sleep or perhaps more? Do you have a car or the patience to wait for the next bus? Do you want to live with 6 other people? There are pros and cons to all of the housing options. Take your time, chat with employees, see if you can visit, etc. and then go from there. It "will" impact your summer experience.
As far as the rude Housing employees...yes I worked with quite a few...hehehe. They tended to be the retirees. Remember that more often than not, they were just trying to do their job the best of their ability and set in their ways. For those who may recall...I worked at the Cedars front desk ('95-'96) with my over the top co-worker Jon...and we generally created a party atmosphere and let some people in without scanning, planned themed "movie nights" in the Lounge, etc., etc....much to the dismay of Kathie Morrow- Housing Director. It was a job that I will always treasure and I miss those who passed by my desk!!
Everyone should live in a place like the Cedars once in your life. It will toughen you up and make you appreciate what you have. Its only for a few months! The Cedars would be a PALACE to some of the folks I've encountered in business trips to India.
John...That is like saying everyone should live in a cardboard box once in your life.
There is nothing palace-like about Cedars.

How do they go about placing you in a dorm/apartment? I'll be starting in mid-June, will they put me where there's room, or do I have a choice?
When in mid-June?
Where in the park are you working?

In 2004 I stayed in the Commons. I think it was the 1400s or the 1500s building. At first walking into my room for the first time it smelled musty but then I just opened the window. Its a smaller room but who really cares. I can deal with that. The only thing I had a problem with is trying to fit all my clothes in the drawer. But I have that problem at home too. I loved it. Its a great place to stay. I miss it ;*(

To add something else, I had seen the living conditions of either the cedars or the gold. I cant remember which one it was. Its where the guys stayed. Yuck! I think if i had walked into something like that I would have been searching for an apartment or an extended stay hotel! lol!

In the day we only had 2 people per commons apartment room. The description that I read was spot on by the way. I would have written almost the same thing. The kitchen was an absolute joke. And the "A/C" was pitiful. It always killed me that Cedar Point employees were not good enough for ovens. Looking back though I can understand why we were not provided with ovens. There were 10 of us in the apartment at the beginning of the year.. 8 of us got fired or quit. My roomie and I were the only ones that made it through the season.... And you expect those 8 clowns to use an oven properly?
Cedars is nasty to be sure. Given some A/C the room actually should be ok as long as you only have one roomate.
me & my boyfriend just got hired at CP. are we allowed to live with each other ? like sleep in each other dorms ?
No. Cohabitation is not allowed unless you're married. You'll hear plenty about this in your housing training.

You may not be allowed to "live" with your boyfriend...
However, what happens in the dorms...

As I understand it, visitation is pretty open. Actual housing restrictions are going to be more strict.
People can come in your dorm, I even had my girlfriend who didn't even work for Cedar Fair stay over at one point for a weekend. As long as you don't get cops in your room all is fine. So don't be dumb about it lol.

You are allowed visitors during specific hours. Over night guests are NOT permitted. Things have changed a bit since 2011. There are now more restrictions on housing to keep public out and to not abuse the amenities there for the associates. If you have a guest who is not a Cedar Point employee or does not live in housing, they must be signed in (to your specific room) at the security booth. Also, we now have RAs. Guests must be out of your room by 11pm. I would not suggest abusing the system because it can, and will result, in disciplinary action. Not to mention a lot of people seem to be disrespectful to their room mates opinions on guests.
It might sound kind of crazy since you are an adult, but its for the safety and courtesy of everyone. :-)
Cedar Point now has RA's?
Wow...I guess the park for sure now doesn't trust people to be adults...
I had people over, they'd crash there on an air mattress or something on the floor, then head home after a weekend on point to enjoy time during my day off or whatever. How ridiculously pathetic.
Especially considering you pay for a room the size of two queen mattresses laid end to end shared by you and two other employees.

^ am I the only one who see's the irony in this post?
You complain that they don't trust people to act like adults, and in the next sentence you say you didn't follow the exact same rules, like an adult should.

You are not the only one. Up until a couple years ago, employees were allowed 24 hour visitation. You never were allowed to have guest spend the night. But that all changed when the one night stands after a evening drinking were reported as rapes. They also found they couldn't account for everyone in the event of an emergency.
