Housing and Job questions 2014

Hey guys.

This will be my first season and I'm seriously nervous.

I have a few questions about housing.

#1 I know their is a Shuttle for off point housing, Does it only run at certain times? or is it available when you need it?

#2 About how close is Grocery Stores and what not from The Commons Dorms? I won't have a car with me in Sandusky.

#3 How's the Wifi In the Commons dorms? I've heard a few bad reviews but they were all in like 2011 and not the most recent season.

#4 What should I and what should i not bring with me? In a list i found it said i could bring my mini fridge? But i've seen how tiny the Commons dorms rooms are.. Is there really room for them?

#5 Where is the laundry facilities? About how much does it cost?

#6 Is ther anything i should be aware of before i process in on May 2nd?

And Now a few questions about the Job

#1 I applied for ride operations, does that mean i'm helping people in and out of the ride, or running the ride, or hosting? I'm not 100% on what i got myself into.

#2 I'm working in Area 3, but i won't know what ride I'm on till Tuesday. Any pointers about the Supervision Staff and the Team leaders? Any of them Crazy and rude? Or are they pretty Nice and respectful?

#3 Days off. Are they pretty regular? Like the days you're scheduled off, or are they placed randomly. Can you chose what days you get off?

#4 What is a typical shift? I've heard people say up to over 16 hours a day? Is that true?

#5 What kind of discounts can i get my friends and family? Is there any?

#6 Employee discounts. Where in and out of the park can i get these?

Thanks for helping me out guys, i truly appreciate it!

#1 The bus continually runs pretty much all the time (from about 5:30 in the morning to 1-2 the next morning). One or two times a day the bus makes a mall / Walmart / Meijer run. So, if you do need grocery run, a bus can take you there.

#3 The internet connection has improved over the years, but it's still not the greatest. The best time to use it is during the day when the majority of people are at work. The worst time is 10:30pm - 1:00am, when a lot of people get off of work.

#4 http://cpplacements2014.weebly.com/faq.html is a good list to use. I would recommend bring a mini fridge with you. Last year, I placed my mini fridge under the desk to save space.

#5 They have laundry facilities in the 1500s dorms and in the Commons Store. I forget the exact price, but they are between $1.25 and $1.50 to wash and then between $1.25 and $1.50 to dry.

#6 Don't forget to bring the $100 deposit for housing. Bring the proper IDs to process in with.

Job Questions
Even though I've never been a ride host, it's my 6th year, and able to answer basic questions about being a ride host.

Ride Host do everything from checking seat belts, to checking heights, to talking over the microphone, to operating the ride. The ride supervisor and team leader will go over everything that you will need to know before opening day. Also, before operating the ride, you will past a visual test, which is learning how to operate the ride from the control booth.

Ride host supervisors / team leaders are here to help the crews out. They also do the job duties that the rest of the crew does. If you have any questions, don't be afraid to ask them. (As a side note, Cody is one of the area supervisors for area 3. He is one of the best ride host there, and is always willing to help whenever possible).

Days off are usually random from week to week. If you want a specific day off every week, talk to your ride supervisor / team leader. It's not a guarantee, but it's worth a shot.

Typical shifts in ride ops are open to 1:30, open to 6, open to 8, open to close, 11:30 - 6:00, 11:30 - 6:00, 11:30 - 8:00, 11:30 - close, 1:30 - 6:00, 1:30 - 8:00, 1:30 - close, and a split (o-1:30, then 6:00 - close). Hours vary due to staffing levels. In the beginning of the season, and late in the season, there is more hours, due to low staffing. However, in late June and in July, things seem to calm down a bit, but still have a good portion of hours for employees.

After 28 days of employment, you will receive 4 free tickets for family and friends. (WARNING: DO NOT SELL THESE!!!) There are various gift shops that employees can receive a 25% discount (Pagoda, Cedar Creek Trading Co. and Snoopy Boutique). I think it's everyday except Saturday. But you would have to buy the item for your family.

There is also a pamphlet in HR that will tell you what businesses in the Sandusky area that you can use your CP ID to receive a discount.

^ Nice job Smiley.

Do you know what attraction you're working yet in Area 3? Steve is pretty awesome, and will be your manager.

1. It runs pretty consistently. I've never really taken the bus besides for parking ban days, and it's not completely awful.

2. The buses actually will take you to Walmart. But really, working in ride operations, you'll probably either be eating in the park, or eating with your crew. I don't think I've ever actually bought grocery's during the summer.

3. The WiFi was actually upgraded last year and is pretty good. I was actually able to stream Netflix and movies without a problem during off-peak hours.

4. Just bring essentials, don't pack too heavily, because really you'll be spending 95% of your time in your uniform. Just bring undershirts, undergarments, maybe two pairs of shorts and a few sets of going out clothes. Make sure you do get a good pair of shoes, because you'll be on your feet a lot.

5. The laundry machines/driers are located in the Commons Store, or boy's side of 1500's. It's pretty generally priced, I think $1.50 for each. And you pre-load a laundry card. Most employees actually go to Clean Scene on 250, which is a laundry mat, but it has free WiFi, and is a much nicer place to be.

6. Processing is fairly simple, just make sure you're in Grooming Guidelines when you go to process in. Secondly, make sure that before you don't go to the bathroom before processing in so that you don't have to stand around in First Aid for three hours when you take your drug test.

1. Ride Operations does it all. We're responsible for the safety of each and every guest as they traverse our rides. That includes checking heights, seat belts, speiling safety information, etc. as well as running and operating the ride. It's really not that bad, and can be incredibly fun. It's my fifth season working in Ride Operations.

2. Supervision / Team Leaders will vary based on your location. Honestly, just because someone is a "supervisor" doesn't really change anything. We're just like you, seasonal employees, and there to work. For me anyway (I'm not in Area 3) but you'll find that as long as you do what you're supposed to be doing, you'll probably get along pretty well with your Leadership Team.

The rest... Smiley pretty much answered. :)
