Housing

Do anyone have any pictures showing the inside of all or some of the employee housing? If so can you email them to me at caramelde17@hotmail.com or just post them up on this site. I really want to see how the housing look before I make my decision of what to choose.

I wanna seeeeeeeeeeee
http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/jobs/facilities.cfm These show the outlines of the rooms. I haven't seen any pictures of them but the outline discribs how minimal the room per person really is.

The room I was in last year was two bunk beds on one wall, 3 lockers, 2 dressers and a desk on the other. There was only about 5' between. It was a bit crampt when I was alone, let alone with 3 other roomates.

From my experince, the more roomates you have, the more drama, noise, partys, arguments and other fun goes on. Apartments have the most roomates.

The biggest problem to me is theft. TV's, stereos, computers, money and other valuables are targets. There are several ways to prevent it. Don't bring valuables into your room is the obvious answer. It can't get stolen out of your room if it isn't there.

Defacing is another option for TV's, computers and there expensive equipment. Using something sharp like a xacto knife or razor blade, or a hot iron like a solidering iron or wood burner put your name all over it. In a less noticeable place put address, phone number all or part of your ss# ect. You probably won't be able to sell it, but at least it's much less likely to get stolen.

I seen something about sonic detectors where it gives off a particular signal and a tracing device and guide you to the detector. Thats probably something you could glue on the inside of something to find it if stolen.

One thing I do with device I own is write down the model and serial numbers on every valuable that has them. I put a discription, brand, then model and serial numbers. They are either on a label or imprinted. Example: Wireless mouse, Medion, model: MD9470, serial: 02005163. It isn't that hard to do, just keep the list in a safe place and/or with you. This makes it much harder to sell.

My favorite is denial of benifit. I problem solving with electronics. One idea I came up with is for a computer that is cheap and easy to do. (I'm guessing about $10) On a computer power supply there are two wires that the connect to the motherboard. When they are shorted together, that turns on the power supply. When you press the power button, the motherboard shorts and latches the two wires untill you turn the computer off which the it disconencts the two wires. I am trying to modify the wiring in the power supply with a 37 pin plug on the back that uses a simular key. Two specific pins are used in the process. The wrong key will either do nothing or blow a sensitive fuse. If you short the fuse in attempt to get computer on, there will be a direct PS short and that will shut it off. Stick the right key in there it turns on and stays on untill it's either turned off or power is cut. I actually consiter doing this fun. :)

I stayed on point in the Gold dorms both years. I only had one roommate. You had to share showers/toilets with the rest of your floor ( I never had a case where there weren't enough toilets/showers). The room was maybe 10x10 (guessing). We seperated the bunk bed and we fit the desk between the beds. But you really arent in your room a lot, you pretty much just sleep.

I found living on point was easier so I could go and change after work and return to the park and play. Plus you could sleep in and know there was a time clock nearby! And NOT DEAL WITH CAUSEWAY TRAFFIC and being late to work. I also liked being able to go home on my 45 minute break and taking a quick nap.

Housing is not that great. There is NO privacy. Bring a little as you can for the season. DO NOT BRING ANYTHING VALUABLE. Cedars is the best as it the quietest and usally you can get rid of a roommate if you don't get along. People are always trying to get out to Commons and or they get fired. And usually if they leave in late july or August you will luck out and have the room to yourself until the Cedars closes. Plus it is so much more convienent than the others. But to be honest I hate housing. Working up there can be fun and rewarding but at the end of the day I want a HOME to come to and just be myself. Last year I went home more than I should just to get away from the place.
I have some pictures of the inside and out side of bayside, and the out side of commons, but it'll be a little bit before I can post them because I'm having problems with my scanner. However I'll post them ASAP when I get the problem taken care of. ;-)

No CP housing isn't the greatest. But I didnt "live" in my dorm, I went out with my crew, hung out at the park and stayed busy. I just slept there, and it did have hot showers! That was all that mattered to me.

Living on point is cheaper, that is why my attention was drawn to on point housing, staying off point was a bit more.

Females stay in Gold and males stay in Cedars.

If you want an apartment, go for Bayside... less roommates (6-10, opposed to 16 at Commons) and you get a full kitchen with an oven. There's also never a line to get in like there is at Commons, where they randomly check bags for CONTRABAND like liquor. They get full early though. The on-point dorms are dumpy, but I know a lot of people who live there just for convenience. The only thing the Commons dorms have going for them is A/C. They're tiny and you're still going to have 3 roommies, community bathrooms, and they cost the most. If you have either an early or late start date though, you might not get much choice when you first get there. At the beginning, only certain buildings are open, and you're there until something else opens up, and by June things start to fill up and you might just get stuck wherever they can fit you

As far as valuables go, if you live close enough to drive home on a day off, leave every thing valuable at home. After you move in, if nobody has a TV or whatever and you trust your roommates you can go get yours. If you live in the apartments though, chances are good there will be someone who has a TV, VCR, computer they let people use, etc. and there just isn't room for four of every appliance.

I never bothered to bring any electronic equipment -- you're working 60+ hours / week, so you don't use it that much anyway (at least, I wouldn't have). I never had a problem with theft, nor did my roommates, though I was always in Gold Dorms on point. I prefer that, because I adore being able to sleep until 20 minutes before my shift and never being late, no traffic, and you're right next to Wardrobe, the cafeteria, post office, etc. without having to worry about it. Plus, it's the cheapest housing (everything off point is more expensive), and every little bit counts.

If you do live off point, remember, even if the bus to work is full or stuck in traffic or late or whatever, that is not valid as a reason for you being late! Just a note to consider.

I usually brought a small tv and DVD/VCR because I'm usually there from the beginning to the end. When it becomes wkends only in Sept., it gets pretty boring. Some people get another job on the side, go home during the week, or just hang around there helping out in their dept. or another dept. to have something to do during the week (if there is any spots open).
