Hours and Location?

Jesz's avatar

I have a question for you lucky CP employees. What are your hours like? Are they from opening to closing? Or do you only have certain hours? Do you get the weekends off and work all through the week? Or is it like a part time job where you only work certain days? Do you live close to CP where you can look out your window in the morning and see the coasters? And how much do you get paid?

Every morning when my boyfriend leaves for work (I am jobless and carless at the moment. lol) I just look out my window at the blue sky and wish there was a coaster to lay against that horizon. I would love to go to CP everyday, even if it meant I had to bust my butt. At least I would beable to ride the coasters on all my free time. Anyways thanks for answering the questions :)

There are several shifts that everyone gets. The shifts change throughout the departments, but in rides, it's essentially like this:

Open-Close
Split (Open-1:30, 6-Close)
O-6
O-8
11:30-Close
11:30-6 (you're real lucky when you get those!)
11:30-8 (much more common than 11:30-6)

I think those are it, but I might be wrong. You will usually get one day off a week, unless they are very understaffed or you have it in your contract.

If you live at Cedars or Gold, you are right on the Peninsula. If you live at Commons or Bayside, you are about a mile away.

Base positions get paid $6.25/hr.

2008: Hard Rock Park - Maximum RPM! Opening Supervisor
2008/2009: Universal Orlando - Men in Black: Alien Attack Team Leader, Guest Services Coordinator

Don't forget your 1:30-close

very lucky to get 1:30-6

The Internationals we have love to work 0-C. So they will switch with you all the time. Also the Blue Tags get paid alittle more than base rate. Plus 1.00 bonus for every hour you work during your contract. As long aas you finish contract you get bonus. Mine is up to about 700.00 right now.

So if you live at Cedars or Gold you can wake up and you are already at the park and can see the coasters? Also...I posted this question a couple years back and I forgot what the answer was so I will ask again. Cedars and Gold...are those cabins or dorms and what are they like? Can you choose whether you want to live on the peninsula or not? And would it be possible just to have your own place and work there or would you have to live at one of their dorms or whatever?

My first season they didn't have any room left in Commons so I lived in Cedars. I woke up every day to the Power Tower outside my window. It all depends on what room you are in though. Some people's rooms face Millennium Force, many face Wildcat, and many face the bay and marina.

Living in Cedars it was nice to only have to walk into the park to get to work. It is an advantage to living in Commons where you have to get up, walk across the Commons bridge, drive to the park, and THEN walk to work. Of course on parking ban days you have to fight to get a seat on the bus. However, this is about the only big advantage to staying in Cedars. Commons has much more appeal as far as living conditions go.

Cedars are the red hotel-looking buildings across from Wildcat and the front CP&LE station. Golds is in the middle of the park by the water tower.

If you wanted to live on point you would have no problem, but there's no guarantee to live in Commons since those rooms fill up really early in the season. No, you aren't required to stay in Cedar Point housing.

bholcomb has some pictures of his dorm on his site, he'll probably come here and redirect you. I don't remember if he was in Cedars or what.

Thanks for all the info. I think it would be real cool to work at Cedar Point just for the fact of waking up every morning to the best place on earth.

I was in the Commons Dorms.

At some point, I'd like to get around to taking pictures of my living conditions, and get them up my site. Prolly won't be for a few weeks though.

For ride photo there are only really 4 normal shifts:

Open-3:00
3:00-Close
12:00-9:00
Open-Close

Hours vary by location and staffing levels, but I have had everything from 36 hour weeks to 70 hour weeks. Extra hours are always available as well.

Our days off change almost weekly, basically we work 6 days in any given Monday to Sunday period and get 1 day off.

Overall working at Cedar Point was one of the best decisions I ever made and I would highly recommend it before you get too old and can't realistically survive on $6.25/hr. But for a summer while you are in college it is possibly one of the best decisions you will ever make.
