Hotel/Resort Employees

Just curious if anyone has worked in any of the resorts. I applied for a resort job this year, it will be my first year working at CP.

How is the job?

What job did you apply for? There are housekeepers, desk clerks, bellhops, etc. Each job is different.

Bellhop...It was my second choice, first was theatre usher.

It seemed to me that all of the bellhops enjoyed their job. I am good friends with a few of them, and I don't remember hearing them ever complain. It's a good job to have. :)

If you work hard at your job you have the potential to make a good amount of tips as a bellhop. Keep this in mind: carrying bags is the least of your job. Yes, you have to get the bags to the room. The way to really engage the guest though is to provide lots of information in a personal way.

Point out the restaurants and shops as you walk through the hotel. Show them how to use the in-room safe and point out other amenities in the room. Give them tips on the best gate to go to if they want to start out on a certain ride. Ask them if they want to have some extra towels delivered to their room and then call housekeeping for them. Engage the children (that always makes parents happy). Tell them about the babysitting service and then help them make reservations for Bay Harbor.

Some bellhops make a lot of money. Others don't. The difference comes down to personality and attitude.

You could have a great summer.

I didn't think there was a babysitting service, unless you're thinking of Disney.

The concierge can help provide baby-sitter's if needed. Early in the season, they would come around to the desk employees and ask them if they ever wanted to baby-sit, and if we said yes, we had to fill out this form of references and they did a background check on us. Bellmen usually don't make reservations for Bay Harbor, but they can direct them to the concierge who does.

I definately agree that carrying bags isn't all they do. I know that they sometimes get calls for odd things. Once this guy wanted some bottled water, so he called the belldesk and the bellman had to pay for the water himself, then bring it up to the guy, who then paid him back. At night time(before 11 or 12), they also do room service runs. The midnight bellman (mid til 8am) takes care of housekeeping calls (towels, sheets, soap, etc) since housekeeping isn't in at that time. They usually hire specifically for the midnight bellman, so you wouldn't be thrown into that without some warning.

It really is a good job, you'll have lots of fun!

Didn't know that was available. Good to keep in mind.

Wow, neither did I! Is it limited to Breakers guests, or can you do this in other on-point lodging?

It's not war, famine, or pestilence; it's only downtime.

I don't know if it is still offered but it was at one time. I know Sandcastle and Breakers guests could take advantage. The babysitter ended up being an off-duty accommodations employee.

You can do it for Breakers, and Sandcastle, and I think Breakers Express also. I remember that my co-worker went there to baby-sit once. I'm not sure about Lighthouse Point. Just call the concierge line from your on-point room (ext 2525) and you can see if they can find someone to baby-sit. It is still offered for resort guests. :)
