Hotel Breakers Express

Hey everyone... I just booked a room at Breakers Express for Saturday the 19th of May. I have never been to Breakers Express and wanted to try it out since I am only going to Cedar Point for one night. However, after booking the hotel I went around the internet and read some reviews only to find that people seemed to HATE this hotel!! I wanted to get the opinion of some of the experts here at PointBuzz. Should I keep my reservation or change it? Let me know what you guys think.

It's really not that bad so I hear.

I stayed there one night last year. It isn't a bad hotel at all. Comparable to any of the major chain's. The service was good. the room was clean. I got into the point an hour early.

We're going to be up there tomorrow night. Stayed there a couple times before, it's comparable to like a regular Holiday Inn or something. Just simple, a bed and a TV *shrug*

edit: way to say the exact same thing as me, at the exact same time :P

Well that sounds better, kind of what I was expecting. The reviews I read (and there were like 10) said that the service was bad, the rooms were dirty, and there were kids screaming through the halls all night (although that is sometimes expected anywhere).

I was there last year, and had no complaints at all... It wasn't luxurious, but it was far from dirty...

Just switch to Lighthouse Point.

I want to but it's like $60 more and I would rather keep that money if Express is acceptable

My family and I stayed at Breakers Express last Oct for 3 nights. It a good clean servicable hotel. The added bonus of the ERT is worth the price. We didn't have a problem with it. THe staff was great too.

I'd be really interested to see those reviews, because I definitely have no complaints about it (and I've stayed in some motels). The service is what to be expected at somewhere middle-of-the-road like it is (friendly, but not kissing your feet every step of the way) and I definitely wouldn't call it dirty (like I said, I have stayed in some dirty places, so I know what to compare it to).

Stayed there last year for Coastermania and I was really mad.

Around 12 in the afternoon they started testing the Fire Alarm and this continued for about 2 hours. Not a good thing to do when they know people are trying to get some sleep so they can pull an all nighter to ride roller coasters until 1 in the morning.

The continental breakfast was awful and you had to pay for it.

I don't recommend Express. I'm staying at Hotel Breakers tonight. I'm spending some serious scratch for a suite for me and the misses. So they better not F this up.

Here are some of the reviews.....

$60 more for Lighthouse is WAY worth it to me. You can walk to the park, you're ON the lake, and the places are really clean. CP just doesn't seem to have the upkeep down to a science on the hotels just yet. The older they get, the worse they become. I travel extensively though, so maybe my standards have just been raised from being in so many hotels.

Coasternerd...you were upset b/c they tested the alarm at 12:00 in the afternoon (when almost EVERYONE will be at the park)?

What time would you prefer? 3:00am?

Fire alarms don't need tested. Just let the people die if there's a fire and it doesn't go off. No big deal, right?

Breakers Express is fine if you just need a place to sleep. It's not a four-star Hilton, but it's better than 90% of the hotels you'll find in a tourist community. We're only 45 minutes away from the park, but we stay there a couple times a season for convenience.

If I was coming to Cedar Point for a "real" vacation, I would probably stay on-site.

Opening weekend last year the fire alarm did go off at 3 am.

Talk about a rude awaking. I've never gotten out of bed so fast in my life.

As for people hating BE, we've always been happy with our stays there. Considering the fact that we're really only sleeping in the room, as long as the bed is half way decent, I'm happy.

Now last year we stayed at some $30 hotel on a spur of the moment trip, WORST MISTAKE EVER!

Dirty, bugs, paper thin walls, and every time a train passed (which started at around 4am), it sounded as if it were coming directly past our bed. Worst nights sleep ever.

Yea, see that is what I am worried about. I just can't stand the dirty motel type. I have stayed at the Comfort Inn near route 2 before and it was nice - that Comfort Suites was nice too but this time I want to be closer to the park.

Early May is a good time to avoid Breakers Express and the Bon Air section of Breakers. Lots of school groups go at that time and fire alarms at 3:00am and other problems are almost expected.

That happens in Orlando a lot during cheerleader weeks and that type of stuff.

Amen. Every few years, I figure I'll sample some non-CP, off-point hotel to save a few bucks. Every time, I regret it.

Breakers Express is perfectly serviceable. I find the soundproofing to be better than average. The rooms are generally clean, and on the larger side for the money. The pool is a good size for the number of people using it. There are few "services" there, and effectively no food, but you're close to one of the better breakfast buffets in Sandusky over at Castaway Bay.

Plus, if you aren't a Joe Cool Club member, it's about the least expensive way possible to get in for morning ERT. That alone is worth a few bucks.
