As you know, Hot Summer Lights starts this weekend and is the new night show replacing the laser show this year. All this week they're getting things ready and testing the show for the big debut on Friday night. I just happened to be getting out of the shower at Cedars when I heard the loud music start up. Cedars has a breezeway that's right across the road from Wildcat, so I figured I'd stand there and watch for a while.
After watching the entire show (about 20-25 minutes) I can say that the show is pretty good. They added a lot more elements to the show, there's more POV this year (MF, TTD, and WT from what I saw), and the fireworks are really cool and go well together with whatever the theme is at the time. The fire water is pretty cool, too. I know that there will be some who, when they see it, will wish the creators could have done this or that or whatever, but I seriously doubt you'll be disappointed.

I can't wait to see it! From what I've seen, they've been doing a lot to get ready for it...

Hmmm...this sounds like it may be the first Summer Spectacular in a few years that I actually want to watch.

Three things you need to fix anything in the universe: duct tape, WD-40, and a hammer. Duct tape if it moves and it shouldn't, WD-40 if it doesn't move and should, and the hammer as the last resort.
When did they test it... early morning or late night?
"If it looks good, you'll see it; if it sounds good, you'll hear it, if it's marketed right, you'll buy it; but... if it's real, you'll feel it."
Go to the Cleveland.com Cedar Point Cam and look at the archives between 10:20 and 11:00... that's when they tested it this evening.

I have always loved their night shows, no matter how old it had gotten to be. It's just the perfect way to step away from all the rides, the stores, etc, and enjoy yourself for the last bit of the day at a great park. Lasers, Fireworks, Pyrotechnics are the way to go.
I'll probably miss the lasers, but, firewater must be a better thing, and I am sure I will not be disappointed at all. I can't wait to see this, and I especially can't wait for my dream to come true.
Maybe I'll post "my dream" in a new thread.

What was the firewater like?
2008 - Games (Area 3/Scales)
2009 - Games Supervisor
2010 - Season pass holder.
The firewater is basically a jet of propane that's been lit on fire. It looks like a plume of fire 10-20 feet tall.

The lasers are gone?
what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
Indeed. Two new screens though; exciting!

Not to rain on Cedar Points parade, but I wasn't a big fan of the new show... It was "trippy" in parts (for lack of a better word) and scarry in other parts. If I had kids I don't know that I would want them to see the scarry section in the middle. It didn't bother me but I could see some kids being scared by that... Also, I didn't think it got the crowd as excited as the last show, but what do I know.... Just my two cents... The Fire water effect was awesome though.

yeah... I didn't think the whole skeleton/halloweekends part belonged in the show.
We made a special trip into the park last night, to see the new and exciting "Hot Summer Lights". Over all I was pretty impressed!! It's New, it's exciting, it's different...and it was time to update. The prior to the show trivia was fun!! I managed to get a few right...but they can be sneaky!! LOL
The new section for college football fans was a nice change. At times it seemed like a shameless advertisement (especially for Halloweekends). The patriotic section at the end, fell short. Can we please find a more current version of God Bless America? Please! lol With all the current events and reasons to feel patriotic, I think they played it safe with Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and George Washington.
I think the show should be a uplifting, feel like you should dance, horah of an end to your day at the Greatest Place on Earth. I didn't feel that way. I had more fun with the Johnny Rockets gang on my way out =)
Over all...you have to see it, form your own opinions...the fire water effect is worth seeing!
Same with us. We got there around 8pm so we could catch the show.
I would have to agree with the other comments. The trivia was an A++ in my book. It was a little down hill from there for me after that.
My 6 year old freaked over the skeleton and doesn't want to see it again. That was a bit much for a family crowd show.
The pace seemed slower than before. I have to say the sports section was better. The fire effects were cool.
The Cleveland rocks section was awesome. The Detroit section was a little off. As an ex-detroit suburb person I don't think of Detroit as bbq ribs and a dancing chicken.
Some of the sections were entertaining. I wish they would have left the original ending in along with YMCA and some other crowd pleasers. To be honest I didn't know some of the new songs that good.
Some of the on-ride video was recycled. The power tower girl has been droping for several years now. I would have liked to see more of the songs/video tie into the park some way.
Don't get me wrong. It was a good show. Those were just some of the areas I didn't care for. I think everyone needs to see it just to see what they think. After seeing it year after year a refresh was needed.
I also have to say I thought the Johnny Rockets gang was pretty good too.
Get with it or die in the process.....
Ironically, the Halloweekends section was my favorite part of the show, but I guess I'm biased. :)
I do think the Detroit section of the show would've been better with "Detriot Rock City" playing.
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun
Could someone take some pictures or video tape it the next time they go? I would like to see it on my computer. Thanks.
