Height & Reasons for Quick Construction

Cedar Point does not have a "G Limit". They just wont build a ride that pulls over 5 Gs. It's not a limit, just a standard that the park has.

If they wanted to build a ride over that I am sure they could.

Turkeys, the only animal smarter than man

I have no hard evidence to back this up, but I bet that the percentage of people who die on coasters is a lot lower than people who die in car crashes, work related stuff, or or those kinds of things.

The percentage of coaster deaths is no where near the percentage of deaths from just about anywhere else. I'm pretty sure more people die every year from falling out of bed than on coasters, so are we going to regulate the matress industry and pass restrictions on how high beds can be?

The thing that dissappoints me is that so many people are blindly following the media, which is being fed by people like Markey. There have been many people tell me that CP is "sick" for building all these new rides because they're going to "hurt people's brains and kill them." It's amazing how many people are mindless sheep being fed by the media.

Let's ride the "Sky Ride Sponsored By The Ohio Lottery Odds Are You'll Have Fun" Ride!

This is kind of an extreme example, but if you want to talk about g's and their effect on people just look at military pilots. Now I know these guys are in tip top physical shape and have training and all, but these guys are pulling 8 or so g's on a regular basis for quite a bit more than a second and you don't see them dying at the age of 29. This whole thing is rediculous.

Well, here's a nice illustration of how safe coasters are. More people were hurt by their own garden hoses last year than on coasters.

why on earth would they? anything over 5 can cause blackouts for some riders even if they are completely healthy. Some jet pilots are exposed to G's well over 12, but have special pressure suits on. just imagine going over a hill and pulling 5 negative G's. or coming off a drop pulling over 5 positive. u whole stay at the park would be ruined

You could probably take 5 postive G's, I think that Goliath pulls that in its helix. There are many accounts of blackout though. Negative G's, on the other hand, that many would be lethal. Even 1-2 could cause some damage. Redding out is a bad thing.

This may have been discussed before but i am too lazy to pick through all the boards, this seemed the most logical place to put this....

When looking at the midway i saw many markings as to where footers could possibly go. Thinking about how fast they're putting the tower and some supports up is pretty logical to the fact that if this thing is going to go in the midway at all then they are going to have to bust some of that up for footers and such. when you think about it it would probably take longer to redirect the midway if needed and get the midway back into sync than some parts of the roller coaster itself. just a thought

also, im going again this saturday and will attempt to get pics from power tower to show somewhat of a "view' of things and i will try to get pics that arent so upclose
Don't do that...you could end up dropping the camera and hitting the ride op, or get kicked out of the park was endangering them.

I've heard many people say that the markings will be for utility lines for the ride. You can see on the webcam that they are already digging a line through the Soak City parking lot.

Smash453, look at Ellex King on the Discovery channel for discussion of footers in midway thing.

You can look at this pic for the PT shot, (unless you would like to get us another pic, that would be great)...

Could you seriously think that CP has to “hurry up and build this before a new law passes….” Sorry, multi-million dollar projects don’t work that way. I’m sure CP has received their plan approval several months ago, before fabrication began. I’d bet that they have had it since well before the park opened this year.

Even if Ohio does regulate height on coasters, the starting date of the law would be something like “no coaster built after 2003…” or something like that. “Building” of a coaster starts on the drafting board, conference table, and accounting office.

Now, it is possible that CP is rushing to get approval on the 1,000’ nuclear coaster….

Maybe they don't feel like topping off a 400 ft. tower in the middle of January. Instead of freezing both sets of cheeks by doing it then, get that part of the ride out of the way now.

I was super before Superstew was cool!
Meanwhile, getting "free" advertisement to all the guests that atten HalloWeekends. I say "free" because while it still costs money to rent the construction equipment, they would still end up spending the money were it not for the guests in the park.

Does this mean that CP is shelling out some big bucks for the weekends for the cranes even though they aren't in operation? Is the majority of the money paid for the workers or the cranes?

I think that there will be a "crackdown" on taking pictures from Power Tower now that some of these threads are popping up... remember that this stuff is read by CP.

Lets just say the "hypothetically" the coaster is 410 ft tall, and does a top speed around 110-120. From 410 feet in the air going straight down and picking up speed ur looking at overbanks (if of course their happen to be any) nearly as high as millennium force and defnitely as high as the magnum. So if they get the 410 first element out of the way first, u still have say another 250 ft element to top off possibly in mid winter.

i do agree that it is interesting as to how they are going about building it. like i said before. the key word is "hypothetically"

Hehe, there was a crackdown on taking pics the day I took mine, right Dan?

I can see it now...

"Cameras are not allowed on Power Tower. We really mean it this time. No, seriously. When we said it before, we weren't as serious as we are now. So don't do it."
