Rollbacks - 1 - Opening Day 2005
Last TTD train of the night (6-23/24).

I have received two rollbacks, back to back saturdays in May 04 and both first rides of the day. First one front row of the gold train (with arms_down of pointbuzz) after a 5 1/2 hour wait for rain and second one was in the second row in the green train, waited about an hour. Both the best rides Top Thrill has given me.

2 Rollbacks..

Best one was in the front seat.

Man you guys are lucky. :)

I got my 4th rollback this past Sunday night. Dragster had been down most of the afternoon due to high winds. I was in the front of the line that formed outside the entrance, and when it finally opened around 9pm, I was in the first train, front seat.

It was slow getting to the launch position, and the ops didn't pull the next train up behind us, so there was a pretty good chance they knew it wouldn't make it over. Sure enough, we didn't! It was definately worth waiting for the ride to reopen!

Yes. First time I rode it in 2003 on a Friday night in October. I was in the last row. They had a problem with the spiel so they weren't sending any trains for a few minutes. We just sat there in the loading station until it was time for launch.

I got one on my 5th ride, in July 2004, which was kinda lucky because it had been running really well for a while, until 4 riders were injured the very next day (I saw Monty Jasper at the station that morning, maybe they were detecting problems before the cable actually frayed?)

It took me 114 rides to get my first rollback (weird I know).

But I couldnt have asked for a better scenario. By which I mean my first rollback was on the first train of this season!!!!:)

I only have 5 dragster launches, and no rollback. I'd give anything to have one!

I had my rollback in 2004... I know its become the "Holy Grail" of TTD to get one, but I will be honest, I was more thankful for the second launch than for the rollback. I thought there would be more of a sensation falling backwards 400 feet... but it was still a good time... Hitting those magnetic brakes going backwards was also quite interesting.

Yeah I agree. Those were my exact thoughts after my rollback on opening day.

-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut

After waiting outside of the line for a little under an hour for it to open, my cousin and I (and some others that had been waiting) ran up, eager to get on the first train which we thought would roll back.

The second train rolled back :(

It was so aggravating. We were among the very first people into the station, and clearly had our choice of which train to take (at the split on the ramp). I've been one or two cars away before, but this one was the worst.

Moral of the story: always take the second train after a breakdown. It seemed to follow a pattern, almost exactly every other train rolled back until they'd cycled through all of them; then it started running smoothly.

Praying for a rollback...

GeeForce, in 2004 we were loaded in the station during a breakdown. The first train of the pair in front of us launched successfully and then the ride stopped. We waited about 10 minutes (still in the station) and then they launched the second car of the pair in front of us (which was the train right in front of us). It rolled back. We would have been the second train launched after the shutdown, but we went over just fine.

So its not always the second train after a breakdown, just as it is not always the first train, or the third train.

I really really want one..we were all ready to go in the red car, then it broke down. We got out of the train, hopped in to the line, then about 10 minutes later got back on and were the 2nd train launched, front row..unfortunatly, no rollback, but lots and lots of bugs. :( We thought it would be the perfect time to get one. We rode 5 times last week, but no roll back. It's ok, we will get one next June. :)

The best time to get one is right after a storm or when it opens. Ride ops told us this. :) And if it goes under 119 mph, you are pretty much going back, but everyone knows that.

Hmm, notice how they don't run black cherry anymore. ;) I wonder why...

I've always wondered, do they intentionally put a certian color train on the transfer? I know they have one on transfer because Dragster runs better with 5 trains and so they can use it incase a problem occurs with one of the trains that's on the track. But do they just put a random train on transfer or is it picked for some reason?

-Adam G- The OG Dragster nut

I'm pretty sure it's random. I've been a lot this year with very little time inbetween each trip and it has been a different color each time.

They use to have a specific color train the left off as the backup, but it seems that now it's a different train each day.

Well the whole time I was there last week, black cherry was on the transfer track. We got on every other color: gold, red, purple, blue, and green. My uncle, brother, cousin, and I really want to ride on black cherry, since it seems to have a lot of rb's, in our opinion. :) Well, it used to have them, idk if it does anymore.

It's funny though, whenever we are getting ready to leave the station, we start chanting for a rollback. :) It's sad how much we want one. 2 launches for the price of one!

From what I understand, the train that used as the backup train during the season, winds up hardly ever rolling back once it is used again. I don't know if that's true or not, but that's what I've been told several times...
