Hands Down

When I went to the park Wednesday I noticed they were shooting a commercial for Millenium Force. I asked someone who worked there whats the deal with all of them holding on to the lapbar. He told me holding your hands up is actually against Ohio state law. Of course they really don't enforce it but if they did they can be handing you tickets or even hauling you to jail. That is an interesting law and I was wondering what if they actually started to enforce it...

You didn't know this was a law? Hmm...

If they actually started to enforce it? Hah. It's just one of those things that they say, so if something happens, well, you know the rest.

Well Cedar Point might well lose some popularity of its rides. I mean whats MF with out your hands up? Sure its a good ride but not as good. Also you know how many people put there hands up out of habit? I know I dont even think about not putting up my hands.

I was in the commercial shoot and after a few rides of not putting my hand up, I couldn't even notice the difference of not having them up.

Feel The Fun!

It's a stupid law that I would doubt ever be enforced.

Just be good, arms down, head back and hold on...with one hand. That way, youv'e got a case in court. :P

Maybe some people dont notice the diffrence but for most of us its a habit.

The only time I have ever held on was on Magnum last May, it was a bit of a bumpy ride so I was trying to stabilize myself. But... on the way down the first hill on any coaster, hands have to be up for sure.

We'll miss you MrScott and Pete

I know there are signs posted in MF's station stating that its against the "Ohio Code 10.34.212.342(insert more random numbers)" to have any body parts out side the train.

I haven't seen one person arrested, and until someone is, my hands are staying up.

has anyone noticed on the web site that all pics show people holding on. As for it being a law i would have to say no because PKI advertises with arms up on there rides, Italian Job Stunt Track pic shows it. It is a safety aspect that cedar point holds.

Ohio Revised Code 1711.551 says, in a nutshell, that thou shalt behave as the ride operator tells you to behave. Failure to do so is a misdemeanor of the fourth degree. So if the park tells you to hold on, then in theory at least, the rule is enforceable under 1711.551.

In Cedar Point's case, it's a company policy for any photo or video shoot.

This maybe a little of topic but, When riding PKI's Beast. Going up the second lift hill, over the speak it say's "Rides Keep Your Hands Down And Inside The Car Thank You". Just like what the other people said, when going down the first hill my hands will always be up.

Quote from a Corkscrew ride op, "And Dragster is down again"

I'm canadian. If I put my hands up, would I still get punished, or would canadian law protect me.

P.s. I think it's a dumb law too, I'm glad I'm in canada.

You would be committing a crime in the State of Ohio, and could be prosecuted by the State of Ohio law. It doesn't matter if you are a resident of Canada, Michigan, or uzbekistan.

I think the state of Ohio only will punish the Candians. BLAME CANADA!!!

If, however, you are French no one will say anything. It's a French tradition to put your hands in the air when things get scary.

A cheap tattoo ain't good and a good tattoo ain't cheap.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA, *cough cough* HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Seriously though, I always took those signs in a way that you could have your hands straight up, just not off to the side and whatnot.

Don't forget to that all rides are built to ensure the rider's saftey to have all limbs come back intact, but the rule is there to protect the park from lawsuit if a passenger is stupid and does do something to get injured if not killed...
