Halloweekends 10/05/02

A reasonably busy Saturday, but not stacked 6 deep. Weather perfect all day. Many walk-ons early in the day. Flat rides mostly short lines all day. Not a bad day for lines at all, and everything seemed to be up all day.

Food service was, in most cases, fast and efficient, and that's great, considering the number of blue smocks we saw. One caveat: The coffee machines all seem to break late in the evening, except the one at the refreshment stand in Kiddie Land. It was astounding how so many coffee machines could simultaneously malfunction after 11pm on a Saturday night. Bring your thermos. :)

Halloweekends is getting better and better, IMHO. The displays were very good, and there was a lot more imagination in their use than in past years, if you can grasp that concept. They have gotten so very subtle with the decorations it's almost scary. (OK, pun intended)

The Fright Zone on the Frontier Trail was amazing! I think it was perfect, very dark, very foggy. You never knew which of those dark figures was another guest, a CP supervisor type, a cop, or one of the characters. The stress that CP makes on "they-don't-touch-you" makes it very cool, and they get as seriously in-your-face as they can, without physical contact. I think this is a far better use of the Trail then keeping the shops open and just fogging it.

The "Tell-Tale Heart" presentation at the Glass Shoppe is not to be missed. This guy's delivery and demeanor are great. It's a stellar performance.

Had a great 11pm ride in the Space Spiral, alone. Just myself, my wife, and the cabin attendant on the other side. As an added bonus, she turned off the taped spiel for us! It was a quiet, peaceful ride to the top and back, overlooking the park and the lake on a night with endless stars. By the way, you don't notice when it's full of people, and the tape is blaring, but ride mechanism itself is as smooth as glass. Very, very quiet.

And Finally, The Special Award For The Easiest Job In The World: Lifeguard at the Hotel Breakers in October. We saw a lifeguard in plastic raingear & goggles presiding over an empty swimming pool when the outside temperature was a brisk 69 degrees, with a bracing wind from the lake.
