So have any FAT (sane) people flung out of rollercoaster's with in the past 10-15 years?

Didn't think so.

Hmmm, while I know the person who fell out before at Six Flags was not mentally healthy I am not sure that that caused him falling out.

Body preportions on mentally challenged persons tend to be similar but many are over weight as the medications cause this.

The insanity itself should not cause you to fall out unless you jump.

Which is exactly my point. How many mentally healthy, non-metally challenged persons have fallen out of a roller coaster in the past 10-15 even 15-40 years....

Anyone??......

Wow! The problem with the man who fell out of Superman at SFNE was because he had a PHYSICAL disability, cerebral palsy or something along those lines I believe, and he wasn't able to hold on tightly to the lapbar handles. His not being in secure enough caused him to slide around throughout the ride, probably further loosening the seatbelt, and the forces on the last turn flung him out. His large body size would have enhanced the Gforce changes, with the extra mass of a big guy causing him to slip around enough to loosen the restraints, but if he'd been secure at the BEGINNING of the ride his death would not have occured.

No the problem with S:ROS is not that the man was mentally disabled, it was in fact because he was so big that the old larger seatbelt did not buckle on him, but Six Flags in their ultimate wisdom decided that that was a-o-k and sent him on his merry way. It was 100% the fault of the ride ops on the scene and if their manual said that was ok, upper management.

Where in the accident report did it say the seatbelt was completely UNBUCKLED? I had never heard that in any of the discussion of the SFNE accident.

I just did some digging and the official report states that both the seatbelt and T-bar were locked in position when the train returned to the station. The problem was the guy's size and lack of proper position of the T-bar allowing him to be tossed around and eventually ejected from the ride.

Speaking from personal experience, the size of one's butt and thighs have a lot to do with the seatbelt fitting on MF. I weighed 285 in 2003 and was able to get the proper amount of slack on the MF seatbelt. I lost weight and had no problems fitting on MF in 2004 and 2005 at 250 pounds. I had some stress in my life and was back at 280ish last fall. I fit on MF with about a centimeter of slack and was let ride by the ops. I have a small butt, so I fit with a 38inch waist on the two trips where I was bigger. Somewhere in these forums is a home test one can do with a chair and seatbelt to measure the distance that the Intamin seatbelt would go and whether you are small enough to fit on MF and Dragster.

Actually I have to agree that medication can play a role in weight gain. I took myself off of Paxil 2 years ago and lost 26 pounds by doing that. I'm still on medication for post-traumatic stress disorder and a few other problems, some of the rides can aggrivate that, which is why I don't ride them. SkyHawk aggravates my panic disorder, but I ride it anyway because after I'm done, I sit down, catch my breath, breathe in deep and calm myself down.

I probably shouldn't be riding that one, but it's SO much fun.. lol

I was told a few years ago that MF restraints were the most strict out of all the rides at CP including TTD. I am also a larger person weighing in at 270 . But as stlfan posted a few back in does matter how large the thighs and butt are for that is usually my problem A couple of years ago however I manged to get down to 225 and was able to have my one and only ride on MF. Last year I went to the park at 250 and was unable to ride MF but was able to ride TTD. Don't make sense to me. But I'm working my tail of now for my July visit with my family and I finally talked my brother-in-law to come up from KC to visit the most exciting park on the planet. And I will be on MF this year. It sure stinks sitting on the side line watching everyone else ride.

StLCPfan I swear I heard that they never buckled him in, did it say anywhere that while the belt was buckeled it was not buckled around him?

In my digging there were statements that the seatbelts of the front seat of car 1 were longer than the rest, basically making them the big boy seats of the Superman rides. The general consensus is that the seatbelt was buckled on the man but the T-bar was not down on his thighs but resting on his belly instead.

Also I rode Superman pre crash, it did not have the Intamin belts, it had belts just like Magnum (including their length)

Ok, just to note the medication info. I put that in there because those who have psychosis (not depression) tend to gain a lot of weight. Meds like Zyprexa which is used for schizophrenia make patients gain weight. (like 100 pounds, not anti depressents) Anti depressents can go either way.

However unless you are suicidal, poor mental health will not make you fall out of a ride.

I had to react to that as a social worker not as a ride enthusiast.

Sorry Ladyjerrico,

I thought you said meds did not make you gain weight. Now I re read it and you said it did. This is common for a lot of mental health meds unfortunalty. I saw clients gain 100 pounds in 6 months, :(

Yup, Paxil made me gain weight. When I was on it, I was at 266, the highest weight I've ever been! I took myself off of it, my doctor wasn't happy, I was on it for a number of years anyway, and I really wanted to lose weight. After doing some research on the internet regarding Paxil, I noticed that many people who were posting about it, actually caused weight gain.

I'm no longer on any medication that causes weight gain and since I've been eating healthy and excersizing 30 minutes a day. I lost 26 pounds in 2 years. (I also have a slow metabolism).

I was too tempted by Sonic last summer that they built in Southgate Michigan, so I gained some weight by eating fast food. My lowest weight last summer was 233. I'm at 240 now and I keep doing what I can to lose my belly fat :)

Oddly enough, it was exactly opposite last year. I think they lengthened the belts on MF because I fit a lot easier on it than I did TTD.
