Gold Pass - Justification

Just Coasting said:

For anyone to say that the GOLD PASS didn't have an impact on attendance has their head in the sand.

I'd still like to see your actual hard evidence on this. Not "the roads were closed!!" or "I counted everyone myself!"

I'm guessing its hard for you to believe we landed on the moon, too...

No, we have hard evidence of that. :)

It's called deductive logic.

In years past, Cedar Point would get 2 maybe 3 great weekends during the Halloweekends event. If your theory was true that Cedar Point was just as crowded on those beautiful weekends in the past, then why wasn't there a parking problem then. Wouldn't it make sense that since there were only 2 beautiful weekends that those 2 weekends would have exploded with guests? Especially since no one wants to go to Cedar Point when they have dismal weather.

No, they didn't explode like they did in 2019 because they didn't have the Gold Pass with the stipulation that you can get next years pass but come as many times as you like in 2019.

To be fair, attendance has been improving on an annual basis, so that could explain some of what we saw this year.

Your reasoning is flawed. More cars does not automatically equal more people.

Less people PER car equals more cars, same amount of people or even less.

The lines inside the park for food and beverage beg to differ with the more cars but less people theory.

That's a stretch, especially coming from someone suggesting others are lacking hard evidence.

This is not personal. As I have an emotional attachment to the park as well. In the past I have found myself irrationally defensive of the park in the face of criticism (constructive or otherwise), and still do sometimes.

This may help-

"Humans are pretty emotional beings, and it’s very common to put some sort of emotional investment on things like values, beliefs and just about anything we feel somehow attached to. Some people would even go as far as to “hook” themselves up to things like political identity (values) and religion (beliefs), the way they would put their identity on their professions, expertise or their competency levels on a subject they think they’re good at.
It’s pretty easy to sink into a certain kind of delusion when we are so accustomed with our own minds without anyone to reinspect them, that any sort of opposition to what we have in that mind could threaten not the content of the mind itself, but our emotional attachments and personal identity that had been invested into those things we have in mind.
That “fact” does not even have to be as absolute as “irrefutable”—most of the time, all that “fact” need to be is just to “make some sense”. In other words, you don’t reallyhave to present a scientifically-correct or verified fact—just for that fact being “true” in some sense would already be a threat to people with investment to the opposite. Depending on the level of emotional and personal investment someone had put into a certain value or belief, the opposition against that value or belief could be so painful, as it disturbed their “comfort zone”, i.e. the comfort of their own undisturbed, unchallenged minds." - Teguh Li

My argument has nothing to do with an emotional attachment to the park.

I just asked where the facts where that are being used to call people liars and have yet to see any from him.

However, your refusal to entertain the idea and demand unobtainable proof suggest you are being emotional and not open to logical rationale.

Either way, I'm done with this particular topic. Best wishes and hopefully the crowds next year are as fair as the weather last fall.

Anything outside of actual attendance numbers is anecdotal. Now, that's not saying it can't be highly accurate anecdotal evidence, but you need the numbers to convict.

Your deductive logic breaks down. Just one example (there are others) is Columbus Day weekend of 2013. Perfect October weather and the growing popularity of HalloWeekends resulted in massive crowds. Cars were parked on every open piece of grass all around the peninsula and up and down the causeway. HalloWeekends has been growing for the last 15 years. Attendance has been steadily rising for years. I remember when Friday nights were a ghost town and everything was a walk-on. Hasn't been like that in the last 5 years. Cant contribute that to Gold Passes.

Summary is this: 1. Yes the park was busier this HalloWeekends over previous years. 2. Weather was amazing most weekends. 3. Gold Passes had some impact on attendance but no one here knows to what extent.

That is correct, no one here knows to what extent, but it certainly did.

Anyone thinking any differently has their head in the sand.

Hoping inefficiencies are looked at long and hard during this off season to handle larger crowd levels for 2020.

Correlation is not the same as causation. Lots of speculation here. If you guys could provide some predictions on the NFL games this weekend with the same certainly as statements about CP next year (damage is done, Gold Pass underpriced, crowds will be horrible all year long, etc.), we could all make some money.

Take the points and the away team if last weekend was any indication.

I mean there are plenty of people who post on this forum who have the numbers, they may have even posted in this thread, they just can't confirm or post said numbers cause they value employment over cool internet points.

Again, I'm gonna wait and see how the Gold Pass effects attendance over the course of an entire season and not just a few weekends in which the pass was new, people wanted to get their monies worth, the weather was crazy nice and it is historically always a clusterf**k on Halloweekend Saturdays.

Until we see a full season of how the Gold Pass really effects day to day attendance all we are doing is beating a dead horse and going back and forth seeing who can beat the dead horse louder and harder.

That said, I can also see families who are not interested in the waterpark want the regular pass for kids and teens and only the driving adults buy a Gold Pass. Plenty of reasons to offer options for people to choose how to spend their cash.

Honestly, they need more family friendly things that will pull people off the middays and away from the food lines (so I can get faster access to my BBQ sausage) - I'd like to see them expand kiddie kingdom, and maybe bring back some of the more tame rides that the kids and families used to love.
