1. Are curtains provided, or do you need to bring your own?
2. Can you hang anything from the walls with nails or tacks?
3. How do you go about having an air conditioner installed and how much does it cost?
4. What do you do if you lock yourself out of your room?
5. Can you replace the phone provided in the room with your own cordless one?
6. Can you pick which floor you want to live on? If so, which is the best floor in your opinion?
7. Is it bad if your room is located near the bathroom?
2. The walls are made of cement. Use sticky stuff.
3. As far as I know, you DONT go about getting an air conditioner installed. That's why they have the commons dorms. If you want air conditioning, you have to pay extra for it like the rest of us.
4. If you lock yourself out of your room, go down to the housing person and they'll lend you the spare key.
5. You're not supposed to replace the phone, but everyone does it. So bring a cordless.
6. Usually, they put you where there is room. You can request a floor and if there's an opening, they'll give it to you. Otherwise, it's first come first serve.
7. I think you answered your own question. I wouldn't want to live near a community bathroom. Some people really stink those things up, and I wouldn't want the smell of crap creeping under my door. haha

1. Yest Gold has curtains but they are sheere thin ones, so if you want good ones bring your own.
2. You can hang things on the wall to make yourself feel at home during the summer, just use nails or poster putty.
3. A/C can be installed, you have to buy a window unit and have maintance install it for you. I'm not sure on the price so you'll have to ask housing when you move in.
4. Like IheartTC said, if you get locked out go see your housing unit.
5. You can bring your own phone and believe me you'll want it because the phones they have are the old rotary ones. As long as you put the old one back on the wall when you leave you'll be fine.
6. Depending on when ypu process in you can choose your floor. If you want a good view of either the park or the lake then the top floor is the best and the most quiet. However if you don't feel like climbing lots of stairs then the lower floors are for you.
7. As far as living by the bathroom goes that's up to you, living across the hall is better than right next door to it.

1) They have these ugly light-blue thick curtains.
2) You could try to nail in things, but like they said, it's cement and would be kinda hard. The doors though are wood, so you could nail in that.
3) You have to buy an AC unit first (about $100), then your supposed to call maintanence and have them install it (I think it was $20-40), then you have to pay an energy fee per day (I think about $0.50). Whatever it costs, it is well worth it!
4) Ditto, that's what the check-in desk is for.
5) Yup, definitely go cordless!
6) They will give you the option to pick of whatever rooms are available to pick from in whichever buildings are open at the time. Building #1 will open first in the season till it's filled, then building #2. Since #1 is used more, it's a little more worn down. Also, the higher up you get in the building, the less worn down it is b/c it has gotten less use. My room faced Hotel Breakers, it was pretty quiet except for the occasional garbage truck or street sweeper going by at night.
7) I lived a few doors down and it was perfect. I didn't have to go too far to get to it, but I never smelled it or had to deal with possible noise of hair dryers and such in the morning.
Lee: You can bring 1 fridge that goes up to your waist or smaller. Your not supposed to have microwaves or any other type of heating devices. There are 2 microwaves for both buildings (porch and courtyard). You usually have to wait a really long time to get to use it though. Those foreigners really love to heat up some water for tea! I've heard of people sneeking them in though and hiding them in their own rooms.

About choosing your room -- if you are there earlier in the season, you can ask for a floor and they'll do what they can. The gals working the desk are pretty nice and of course they want you to be happy so that they don't have to do all the extra paperwork to move you if you're not.
