Going to the park alone

People come to the theater alone all the time. There was a point when I watched a movie every time I had to drive my (ex) girlfriend to class.

I never cared much about doing things alone, but I typically don't go to social events alone because I don't care much for people. Haha

@Coasterguy

I've been going alone lately and will be going alone this Sunday-Tuesday, if you need someone to ride with hit me up!

I go alone quite often. I ride what I want, when I want without asking "do you want to ride this?" all the time. You don't have to get an agreement on where to eat. And you don't need a "single rider" t-shirt to have a good time.

I used to work at the park in various departments. I would sometimes go to the park solo as well. The last two years in admissions I sometimes work a split shift, which is open to 2, then 6 to close. Unless I had to go to the bank (very rare), I thought it was useless to go back to the dorms. So, I had a change of clothes with me, ate at the employee cafe, and then walked around the park for a couple of hours.

I drove out there for 4th of July fireworks in 2003, rode MF, drove home. (90 miles each way)

I was there that year. If i recall correctly it rained like a son of a gun for about an hour but was clear the whole day otherwise. We had a hotel room to watch the rain from. (Although it could have been the day before the 4th that it rained since it was a two day trip.) It was our last family trip to the point before we lost my dad.

First ride; Magnum 1994

I visit friends in Cleveland a few times a summer, and on my way back to the Detroit area on Sundays I will drop into the park for a few hours. I've had a few people look at me weird, but that's their problem. I am not going to drive past Cedar Point on a lovely Sunday afternoon when I am in no rush to get home, and not stop in at least long enough to ride a couple of my faves.

There's a lot of people who go to places like WDW alone for a weekend, so I don't see why CP would be different. I'd do it, if I didn't live close.

(As a matter of fact, if it weren't going to be 90 this weekend, I'd be there on Sunday, but I've decided to get home faster and go see Wonder Woman instead.)

Hitting 4 different parks, all 5 weekdays next week on my own. Love doing this. Helps having a smartphone in line if other guests aren't chatty like me, though. Did 14 parks in 14 days last summer. Only had someone with me the first 4 days. The other 10 days I was completely on my own.

I go several Sundays per summer to Cedar Point on my own.

I love my family and all, but I actually end up going along quite a bit. Seems mom is the hard core CP fan in this group. I love going along, never feel uncomfortable and just enjoy myself.

The one drawback to this (actually it doesn't work out if I go with my family either) is I can't get on Slingshot. Have never, ever timed it to show up at the same time as another single rider.

Update: just went today alone. Not bad. Only needed to spend 4ish hours and I rode everything I wanted including millennium, maverick x2, valravn, gatekeeper, magnum, gemini, CP&LR, sky ride. Great day at the park, except the beach was infested in may flies when I tried to make a stroll out there.

Ughhh, I'll be at CP a week from today. I'm sure the may flies will be in full swing.

May flies are a sign of a healthy Lake Erie. Welcome them with open arms and a closed mouth.

Is it really healthy though? What's with all the dead fish on the beach and all the black gunk on the beach side over by Sandcastle?

Love the mayflies. Making a special "mayfly" trip in about 12 days for the experience!

Fish die of old age, accidents and various diseases just like any other living thing. The black "gunk" is moss. The lake is fine.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks,
than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

You go to a beach on Lake Michigan and you never see stuff like that... It's more than fish just dying of disease.

No shame in going solo! I do every year. My significant other, sadly, is not an amusement park guy (I tried once, it was a disaster) and it's either go alone or not go at all. But it's nice to get away, not have anyone else's schedule or preferences to answer to, and be able to do everything at your own pace and whims.

Proud 5th Liner and CP fan since 1986.

The mayflies in the park yesterday evening were not bad at all but from the corner of Rt6 and Rye Beach all the way south of Huron on 90 they were swarming so bad you could see them as gray clouds above the treeline probably quarter of a mile away. I drove through a few swarms and it was like going through hard rain but the wipers don't help any. I spent this morning scrubbing my windshield. The whole front end of my van was so nasty the the dead mayflies were attracting regular flies.

On going alone I've only done it once. It was nice but I kept feeling like I was forgetting something and checking pockets to make sure I had everything which is stupid because what I was missing was two teenagers and they don't fit in my pockets.

I go to the park alone frequently. It's great.

Before I met my friends up to the year 2014, I used to go alone a lot. It was fun at times, but other times I used to beat myself calling myself a loser because I was going solo often. Now that I have a gang I hang out with when I go to amusement parks, I maybe go solo twice a year. I also have more confidence when I go with friends or myself.

Most of my visits(starting in 1996) have been alone. Of the few times(maybe 6-12 times) it's been with 'family',daughter or nieces,I would stick with them. Of the friend(another coaster nut) that I occasionally go with, sometimes we'll 'hang' and sometimes we'll split. Independence is great to be able to ride what and when I want,to be able to eat when and where I want, and to be able to go around exploring and taking pics. As a 'single rider'(no I'm not one of those abusive and 'entitled' single riders),I typically wait/stand at platform back(for MF asking a single rider if I may join and for TTD wait to be called by a ride host to fill a vacant seat. Valravn and Maverick I tell them put me where you want as where doesn't matter to me.
