Going Green?

First Energy isn't an official sponsor of the park anymore. Interestingly enough, they disappeared as a sponsor around the time of that huge blackout in 2003...

The solar panels wont work unless they have big batterys to store the power. Epcot Did that with a ride and it has backfired on them cause every time it gets dark, rains or clouds move in the ride stops and it knocks out the computer and everything else. They didnt think to use battery backup.

^ What ride was that?

Yeah, what are you talking about? If you're referring to The Universe of Energy (or Ellen's Energy Adventure), you're not correct.

The solar panels on the roof collect energy to partially power the moving theater vehicles with batteries. Even the narrative in the show tells you that.

Here's a link that tells you more about how the system works.

During peak sunlight conditions, the solar array is capable of generating approximately 77 kilowatts of DC electrical current (enough power to supply the needs of 15 average homes). This power is run directly into a substation located behind the pavilion where it is then converted to AC current and sent into a utility power grid within the pavilion. From there, the electricity is transmitted to charge plates located atop the two massive turntables within the pavilion's two main theaters where it helps to recharge batteries within the ride's traveling theater vehicles.

I work at U-Haul and for a company who rents big trucks that eat through alot of gas, even we are taking huge steps to go green. All our new trucks use a new "special" way of being painted and a special "green" paint that is experimental from ford. It saves just a little money and cuts down on alot of emissions created in the spraying process and uses less paint.

we also have these gauges on our new trucks that tell you how your driving style is effecting your fuel economy, which is really brilliant. Every time I get in one my driving style changes, and not only will it help the customer use less fuel and lessen the impact of the truck being on the road... it'll help cut down the wear and tear from those that would have instead driven the truck really hard.

We even have a take a box leave a box program. When your done with a box, you can leave it in this rack and another person can use it for free.

Even in all our centers, we are not allowed to install incandescent bulbs any more. To do so is a termination offense.

we even have a entire full time "sustainability" department at our corporate offices.
