Going Green?

I've been thinking about this a lot lately and where this Earth is heading, I think Cedar Point could do something to promote going green. Maybe something about planting trees or cleaning up the park. It would help the atmosphere that little tiny percent, but it still counts =) I think personally its a great idea. What do you guys think?

I think they should do something to limit their energy consumption. I'm sure they SUCK the power to operate all those rides. Even if they installed some type of solar collection to operate even a small section of the park (like midway lighting), it would help a lot.

Or, start converting all the decorative lighting on the rides to LED.

I'm sure people on here are going to scream that they shouldn't be bothered with "going green" because it doesn't help the bottom line of the park. But, reducing their energy consumption (or generating their own power) does more than help the environment. It also saves them a LOT on their FirstEnergy bill.

I can see it now, solar panels on all the rides... :)

It would be cheaper if they used fluorescent lights instead of regular lights, that would save a lot of $ and energy.

I think this was kind of a topic on a previous post about taking the water from around the bay and lake to make everything run instead of electricity. Something like how were they going to do it and if they had the rights to do it.

I think LED lights would also look much more amazing.

What they should do is take out all the chain lifts and elevator cables and put pedals under each seat on every coaster.

Things could definitely be brighter if they went with LEDs. You know, the solar ideas for the midway lighting isn't really a bad idea now that I think about it. You could even go to solar for some electricity in the buildings, as you could prop up a decent size panel without anyone knowing its there (unless you look on Live Maps) due to the building facades.

Instead of going Green, we all know everyone should GO BLUE! :)

If Cedar Point really wants to go green, we might need to say goodbye to Wicked Twister. ;)

Don't company vehicles run on different kind of fuel already? I remember an article a few years ago mentioning that.

Being close to the gusty lake Erie I would think wind turbines would be a viable option. They could install them on the main land and tap into the grid and recieve a credit from Ohio power. Solar panels are an option but then there are battery banks and monitor systems to keep track of, and it seems that the maint. crews allready have their hands full.

Also Leds is a great option, much brighter and they last a lot longer so there won't be the " when are they evar going to fix teh lights on TTD cuz it suxz wit out them" threads.

I'm pretty sure you need battery banks and monitoring systems with any type of generation - albeit solar, wind or hydro.

But, the theory is if you generate enough power to offset the cost of electricity (which most likely will continue to rise in the coming years), then it's worth it. Even if you break even, you're doing a lot to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels. So, it's a good thing.

I'm sure if you looked at a graph of CP's electricity bill, it could be directly related to the weather. Sunny day = more power usage. So, solar would be a good option I would think.

Craig, all company engines, including maintenance trucks, police cars, lawn mowers, Cadillac Cars, Paddlewheel boats, go karts, etc, run on gasohol, according to the park.

Tim, thats why I am saying they could tie the Wind turbines into the main power grid. No battery banks would be needed and they would recieve a credit from Ohio power for what ever amount of power they put into the grid.

depending on the size of the turbines and how many I would think they could get into the megawatts fairly easily per month.

I know they arent directly using the power they are producing since it is being fed into the grid but they are helping offset the amount of fossil fuels it takes to power the beast.

I would also think they could set up an ATS so power would be available for CP only in case of a power outage, until they can retrive people from rides safely and then restore the power back to the grid.

I remember hearing that the light tree on Dragster's tower is the world's largest LED "stoplight"(red, yellow, green).

TTD is still brightly lit each night during the season. One thing that most didn't catch this season was what time the lights turned off. In the past the lights turned off at 2am. In 2007 they turned off at dawn.

Gotta love living in Cedars. :)

^ 4 AM for Dragster and I believe Power Tower too. Millennium was either 1 or 2 AM.

It looks like Hershey has been generating their own green power for four years now.

Gee, not sure what the OP is talking about, but I seem to notice a lot fo trees around.
