Giant Wheel Center Piece

[sigh]

OK, new tack. Let's say that the original Ferris Wheel doesn't count because it was dismantled (we'll also conveniently forget the fact that it was also reassembled later before being dismantled again).

Can we count the Riesenrad in Vienna, Austria? It's over 200' tall and has been around in its present form since 1945.

If that's still not good enough, then you win. I'll end this by saying that at the time it was built, CP's Giant Wheel was the largest of its kind anywhere in the park.

The only thing other than CP that Steelers and Browns fans agree on

Largest, fastest, and steepest, you mean.

It was just a thought DBCahill. I'm not trying to win anything.

OK, when it was erected in 1972 it was the tallest Wheel operating in North America. This is a stock 45 meter wheel in the Schwarzkopf catalog. They came in park and portable versions. Another one of these was purchased by Warner LeRoy when he was building Great Adventure. The Willenburg family in Germany toured several examples on the european fair circuits.

Since then there have been several wheels built that have exceeded the demensions of Giant German Lemon (as we used to call it.There's a long story behind this.) The Vekoma built one at SF Darien Lakes (formerly Knoxville Fair) and SF Mid America are taller. I won't even discuss the London Eye.
