Someone better explain what's going on here...or...there will be a lot of explaining to do!
Sucks, 'cause if you e-stop it'll actually take longer to get them off...

I think the drive motors have been replaced, or at the very least they are now fan-cooled instead of having all that air-conditioning ductwork blowing on them. I think that changed when the wheel moved.
Or I might have this all wrong... :)

We only use e-stop for extreme situations, like improper balancing and in those situations usually e-stop just slows down the wheel. It still drifts back and forth for awhile until it finds a natural place to 'stop'. Generally, this would be where the most weight is.
By the way, there is no picture taking, video recording, or basketballs allowed on the Giant Wheel. ;)

The first Ferris Wheel debuted at the World's Fair in Chicago in 1893. It had 36 cars that were each about the size of a bus, and each car could seat 40 riders and hold another 20 standing.
The Wheel was 264 feet high, and the cost 50 cents for a ride. To put that in 21st century terms, 50 cents in 1893 is the equivalent of about ten bucks today.
