Getting Fired?

Cedar Point is considered by some to be the premier place to be employed.

My question is, Why would someone get a job there, only to do something stupid and get fired?

Also, what kind of stuff have you seen employees get fired for?

Fighting, excessive tardiness, telling your boss to **** off, you know just random stuff. No one tries to get fired, it just sorta happens. Most people quit though.

Honestly not that many people get fired. They seem hesitant to fire people because it means spending more money to train new people. What they do in the case where someone should be fired, they typically move them to another department, usually the crap jobs people don't want.

Be careful there Brent. Last year, the typical attitude among many supervisors (at least in foods) was to fire people for the smallest things towards the end of the season/contract. Seems like a good way to save some bonus money from the employees. But not that many people really do get fired.

As for the Mantis Crew Party 2002, only one person got fired from that incident and that was because he was already on his last warning for other things. Everyone else crawled by on the skin of their teeth. Lucky us!

I know it isn't gonna be answered here.. so I'll have to find out from my Courtney over at Power Tower if she knows anything about this mysterious 'crew party' ;)

I'm not saying anything on that one Brent. We all know my opinion.

As far as getting fired, during the height of the season they don't usually fire, but they usually get really picky near the end. Some people don't want to part with bonus money. But, then again, some employees get real stupid near the end because they figure they've made it this long, they can handle a little bit more. Stupidity is the number one cause of termination at CP.

Cedar Point has long been known to work their employees to the hilt all summer long, then as contract dates near they tend to "find" reasons to fire people to save money on bonuses. Anyone who has ever worked at the Point knows this.
I can't go into too many details but I know of a situation where a whole crew of employees (albeit a small crew) was hauled into jail after leaving a bar. The driver had been busted for DUI.

The full-timer shows up at the location the next morning only to find no one is there. No one was fired, though, b/c one of the people involved was "protected".

Certainly one of my favorite stories.

Well I'm not saying it's impossible to get fired, I can just think of several people who went well beyond what should have been their final warning.

Enough with the CP HUNTS DOWN BONUSES AT THE END OF THE SEASON BS...

This has been and will always be the number one employee myth.

The ONE thing that makes CP stand out from all the other parks, is the SAME standards are set and EXPECTED, on the FIRST day of Opertions as the LAST day of Operation and EVERY DAY in between.

This includes Employee behavior...

If you don't want to get "fired" then just read the employee handbook. I haven't seen a recent copy but I am sure there is a "list" of reasons for IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL...It doesn't matter how "good" of an employee you were during the year.

Every year some employees feel they have "Earned" the right to screw off...Maybe at some other company but not at CP...and that is why CP is a constant Golden Ticket Award winner...because CP EXPECTS to operate at the best of it's ability each operating day.

Way to say it, Tim. As we're nearing the end of the season now, the only reason more people appear to be getting fired is that they are the people that have been racking up warnings for tardiness, slovenliness, poor behavior and so forth all season long, and so now they're fired. Naturally that makes is look like they're just waiting until the end of the season, but that's not the case. You do have to work pretty hard at getting fired, unless you have a major incident that would be enough in and of itself to get fired.
Sometimes, even major incident's arn't enough. There was a case on Gemini, and that's all I'm really going to say. But sometimes there is favoritism.

I love working at Cedar Point and it truly does take laziness and inconsideration to actually get fired. Just do your job, do it properly, and do it safely. That's all they ask for.

At Dorney is the same way. If you are lat a lot or miss working (and don't call in) most like;y you will get fired. The other other way (in ride at at least) is if your not doing it with safety in mind it might get you fired. I know DP really promotes safety. Down to the point at if we are not riding the right way (hold on, facing forward, ect) during test rides it can get you writen up (and if you do it again fired) They want us to set an good example for our guest.

But at it end of the year I do think they are trying to save money. Meaning if you do doing something wrong at the peek of the season and they see you you probaby won't even say a word to you. You do that same thing in the end of the season I have seen people gotten fired for it.

I will support Old Timer Tim on this one. Back in my days the LAST thing we wanted to do was to fire someone at the end of the season. Heck, that is when we needed people the most.

If anything, the troublemakers were more of a problem b/c they thought they had us by the ***** since we were so hurting for help. But, you have to draw the line somewhere and I would rather get rid of a cancer and do some extra work myself than tolerate a bunch of B.S.

I can assure you that if mgmt had their choice they would rather pay your $1,000 bonus than have to keep food stands, shops or attractions closed.

This is my third (and final) season at the park and I remember these rumors going around about the bonuses. Don't believe the rumors the managers there are not stupid enough to fire people for some bull crap reason considering they are hurting for help especially in the end of the season.

Well Puggers, why is it going to be your last season here? Had enough? I had enough a week ago but now it seems my luck may be changing. I may actuallly get back something I lost a few months ago. That means more money for me!! Hooray!! It pays to pray a lot and to do your best at your job. You should always do your best at everything anyway, IMHO.

SweetPrincessKimmie

I agree with you there kimmie but as for this being my final season thats a big, fat YES to that I have had enough of working there as for next year think season pass.
