Geauga Lake Going to Close?

CP could get rid of Soak City and build Coasters and Flats over there. Then if people wanted to go to the biggest water park in the Mid west they could go to GL if they wanted HUGE coasters and thrill rides they could go to CP.

Cedar Fair considers Cedar Point to be a resort. That means they want as many varied activities as possible to keep people in the 1400 rooms for as many nights as possible. They are not likely to close Soak City or Challange Park or the mini golf courses or para sailing or whatever. People going to Soak City are prospects to stay in a CF hotel, people in Aurora, Ohio not so much.

This Isn't A Hospital--It's An Insane Asylum!

As long as Cedar Point has hotels they aren't going to get rid of Soak City. Why would they eliminate a reason to stay an extra night on property?

Well, this a wonderful thread. All this negative speculation about G.L. The season is not even over yet and everyone wants to part out G.L. or declare it dead.

I was at C.P.today and had a chance to chat with Tony Clark (if I got the last name wrong I apologize). He had indicated that there is no truth, currently, to any of the rumors that have been posted.

I believe that everyone should be under the assumption that G.L. will still be in operation next year (maybe without a few attractions). Remember C.F. has announced that all 12 parks will be included the Platinum Pass for 2008. However, I suppose it is odd that G.L. has not made mention of the new pass and a few other parks in the chain have...most note worthy...MA.

Although, if an announcement is made and more major attractions leave G.L. then I can understand creating a "What the hell is going on at G.L.?" thread.

But let me add my own wild speculation. Is the $140 all inclusive Platinum Pass any indication that G.L. is closing or reducing its ride count? After all, for 2007 between the Maxx Pass, All-Ohio Parking Pass, and Joe Cool my pass was $215? That is one hell of a price cut!

If the conversation begins with "I heard on NPR..." I will ignore you.

There's nothing to say the ride side won't close and the water park remain open. If that happens, and it's still called Geauga Lake, your Platinum pass would still be valid there. I'm not saying this will happen, but it is possible. So, just because Geauga Lake is listed on the Platinum Pass as a park, don't take that to mean nothing will change.

If they do remove Dominator and Thunderhawk I would like to see CF bring some people on board that truly know how to maintain and run wooden coasters. Big Dipper, Raging Wolf Bobs and Villan could be great rides with some tlc and proper maintenance. This along with the addition of some flats (new and retro) could make the park a nice place to spend the day. I think they should also bring back the picnic pavilions like GL used to have so families could bring their meals (similar to Kennywood). The park is hurting right now for an identity and if CF plays their cards right with the park they could make a park that could be as nice as Knoebels, Kennywood or even Holiday World.

No matter what this will be a long process and hopefully the general public will understand and not abandon the park.

They still have a public picnic area. It just that you have to walk under Villan to get to it now.

Screamscape has updated their rumors today to include Head Spin and Americana Wheel to the list of ride removals.

Even if I take the tale with a grain of salt, the idea of so many ride removals is a very sad thought.

Richie A.

I can understand them removing Head Spin just because it has very low ridership compared to the other steel coasters at Geauga Lake.

Not painting it in the off-season when they said they would is kind of a tip-off. :(

^That was my thinking. Then again, did it really need to be painted?

It has to be one of the ugliest rides to just hang out over a road. I say rip it out just due to that fact. :)

I'm certainly not going to protest it, but it is still a very sad thing.
A lot of work has gone into that park and to see all of it come to an end at once is pretty devastating.
I grew up going to that park almost every year and I saw new rides come and old rides go. And now too see every single ride just go at once is really sad.
And I hate that they didn't give us any prior warning to get out and ride the classics before some of them become spare parts. It's an outrage.
I must say, the day I see Big Dipper bulldozed...I may just cry.

I think any Geauga Lake fan will cry (if they all ready have not) when Big Dipper get bulldozed. It should be an Auruoa or Ohio landmark.
