If some people have chosen to smoke, and you go stand next to them, thats your own fault.

People do not need the government to protect them from themselves, that is not the purpose of government.

Not true.

If you read the whole report, than you will see that the smoke is more toxic with the more people that are smoking in an area, but even with a single smoker there is a elevated amount of toxins in the air.

And the smoke is heavier than air, so it lingers and drops from the air.

And I dont "choose" to stand next to them. They just light up. You act like I seek people out that are smoking and go stand next to them. Like I said, its when I am in line for a ride, or just walking down the midway. I have inhaled fumes from groups of smokers that have been 100 feet in frount of me.

I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

A single smokers toxins also dissipate much more quickly than a groups. There's a reason he used groups, he can get higher concentrations which look better on his graphs.

Yes it drops from the air until it can drop no further, which would be the ground. It doesn't just drop until it gets around head level and THEN stop dropping.

And that's just inconsiderate. You'll find those people no matter where you go.

Don't bother, John. Arguing with the "I need the government to tell me how to survive" crowd is pointless.

Brandon

I never said that "I need the government". I just said that there are CERTAIN things that they are doing to protect us.

They make laws for a reason, weather you agree with it or not.

And yes, a singe smokers smoke does go away faster than a group(no brainer). But the facts are this...Second hand smoke(no matter how much), is bad for you.

So is going to Cedar Point, if you are going to be around smokers. Yet, you still go.

Brandon

There is NO SAFE LEVEL OF SECOND HAND SMOKE.

Even the surgen general has said so in yet another report on the dangers of second hand smoke..

http://areyouokwiththat.com/facts/

So dont try and feed me that crap about "just a little bit" wont hurt me.

crazy horse's avatar

Yes, I will go.

I am not going to lock myself up in my house and hide. That still does not hide the fact that second hand smoke is bad for people.

You know its bad, so why do you continue to try and paint a rosie picture about it?

I'm not painting a rose-colored picture of anything.

You're overlooking the simplest aspect of the whole situation - no one is forcing you to put yourself in that situation. If you feel that you are at risk, don't get into that situation. If you choose to put yourself there, you assume the risk.

So, what's the problem again?

Brandon

JuggaLotus's avatar

Ok. If I smoke a pack a day (that's fully inhaling smoke) for a year (or even years) I may or may not get cancer. And that's quite a bit of direct smoke.

Inhaling a bit of secondhand smoke (even at the Red level), once (that's one inhale) every few weeks, may cause some irritation. It may cause an asthma attack if you are particularly sensitive. Heck its probably going to even smell nasty. But you literally don't have a long enough exposure to it for it to be a serious threat. And there are no long term studies on what extremely limited exposure to SHS is. Is there bad stuff in SHS, YES. Does the average person receive enough exposure to have any long-term health issues, NO.

I dont "choose" to inhale smoke. I think I have already made that clear many times.

The situation is me and millions of others wanting to go and have a good time without putting our health at risk. Why should we not be able to go to a park and have a good time?

The argument is about "changing" the situation into a better situation. Like I said, I am all for designated smoking areas.

I am fine with you killing yourself, just as long as you are not putting me in any danger.

Whats the problem?????

Peoples health and the disregard for it by smokers.

You would actually be disregarding your own health in that situation. Nice try, though.

No one is coming to your house and blowing it in your face. You can go somewhere else to have a good time, if you're concerned about getting cancer from second hand smoke. Just don't forget your foil hat.

If you go somewhere else often enough, the private companies like CP will take notice, and ban smoking altogether, which is 100% fine, and 100% American. Having the government step in to appease some whiny big-government cry babies is un-American.

Brandon

JuggaLotus's avatar

Well, there's also the disregard for their health by semi truck drivers. The amount of carcinogens exhausted by their diesel engines is far greater than the smoke from cigarettes. Yet I don't hear people complaining about them.

Here...

And here...

http://medicalreporter.health.org/tmr0895/smokemyth0895.html

The second link is something I think you need to read.

See, every time there is talk about smoking, someone always has to try and bring other things into the mix to try and twist it all around.

Facts are facts...second hand smoke is not good for you. As a matter of fact, its more toxic than the smoke inhaled by the smoker.

Talk about twisting it all around...

You can keep reiterating that it's bad for you all you like, but you're still missing the point altogether.

Brandon

crazy horse's avatar

No

You are dodging the fact that second hand smoke is bad for people(I have even gave you links to many studies/articls on it).

And you refuse to understand the impact on peoples health no matter how much they inhale. People don't inhale shs by choice.

I have yet to meet someone that said "lets go inhale some shs".

Thats the point. I dont know how else to put it.

So if you dont give 2 craps about your health, fine.Just keep on smoking. But don't do it around me. Its not only rude and disrespectfull, its bad for anyones health.

More and more places are going to non smoking for a reason. Why do you think that is?

Interesting that they mention Ohio.

I don't care if inhaling smoke bad for you or not, I just don't want to smell it and I don't want it affecting me in anyway by getting away from it.

I am getting a lot more than just one breath of shs at a time. And many times a day as well.
