Yes... GL's traffic sucks worse than anything I know. I'm just under thirty miles from the park, but it takes about 45 minutes to get there... just ten less than Cedar Point. Then when I get there, I'll have to wait in line extra long because of GL's notorious inability for moving people through the queues and on to the rides.
About the I-71 construction... unless they're also messing around in Columbus, the construction should be limited from SR 18 north to US 42... or at least that's what the last map said that they showed at a Brunswick City Council meeting.

Jeff how fast do you drive to CP? (MPH?) Do you speed to get there in 35 minutes? I live in North Olmsted and take I-90 each time and it takes almost 45 minites to the second to get there. Doing the legal speed limit plus 5 mph of course (for a grand total of 70 MPH, unless I'm excited about Magnum then I drive 72 MPH).

At the dawn of the new millennium they all bowed down to CP realizing they lost the war.
Dave makes a very good point. I once saw some statistics in some publication (Amusement Business?) that show the relatively small percentage of park visitors that pay the gate price. The real question isn't how much it costs to get into CP when you just walk up to the gate, but how much it costs at AAA, with an empty Pepsi can or whatever. If the season doesn't go the way Cedar Fair wants it too, I'm sure you will see discounts that make up for the big price increase.
It takes 55 minutes for me... not 35. I set the cruise control for 72 mph. My path: I-71 @ SR 303 to Turnpike, to SR 58, to SR 2, to Rye Beach, to US 6.

You are all missing something. If G.L. and Sea World can get together on marketing, the potential to be competitive with CP will dramatically increase. I worked at G.L. moons ago and many of the guests told me that they only came after seeing it from Sea World across the lake.
For the General Public, Six Flags and Sea World have more brand recognition than Cedar Point, at least on a national scale. Build a few more hotels in the area and you could be looking at a resort destination comparable to Kissimmee, the early years. If they sell a two day or three day ticket ala Universal Studios Florida and Wet 'N Wild you are looking at a packaged vacation. Don't forget Aurora Farms outlet down the road is a huge draw too.
The traffic in the area is the biggest drawback but it isn't anything a little creative engineering couldn't fix on a 10 year plan. While Cedar Point is my favorite, don't count out Geauga Lake. Nobody thought Universal would provide much competition for Disney but do the words Islands of Adventure mean anything to you?
Six Flags has brand recognition, but I'm not sure it's positive recognition. Six Flags has a tendency to be unclean, poorly staffed, and slow. Not to mention attracting less than savory types. With CF owning KBF and CP, the midwest and west coast most definately knows who they are.
(Oh yeah, has anyone checked to see if Universal has actually lowered Disney's numbers?)
Okay you guys drink your beer and I'll match each swallow of beer you take with a shot of rum, and then, I'll ride all the spin and puke rides!! Beat that one! LOL ;) (ride them without puking that is!)

Likes her coasters like her men, fast and furious!
I think they need cup holders on those rides.

I think GL will be good compitition for CP and PKI and force both parks to bring us bigger and better rides!! Lets not argue, well have three great parks not that far from eachother with their own feel and *special* rides (CP= Millenium Force, PKI= Son Of Beast, and GL= unnamed floorless coaster")
