Gay Day

okay we are gay, and I hate PDA from anyone, str8s as well as mo's. I wish that people would go to Cedar Point to ride that damn rides and everyone stop making out in lines, it makes me sick!

I think there was another thread started about the t-shirts the park is selling this year and how they don't belong in a park that prides itself on family orientation.

If a homosexual couple would like to visit CP, noone can stop them. To have a day specifically designated by that group for them to "overtake" the park and think it's OK to do whatever cause it's "my day", that's a problem.

It all comes down to what is socially acceptable and what isn't in the society today. Two dudes ramming their tounges down eachother's throats in front of a 7 year old is wrong, no matter what way you look at it. If the gay community wants to make a specific day for them to gather at CP then fine, but don't expect special treatment because "you" made it "your day" there.

I proclaim June 15th as "Hetero Day" ;}

I can agree with that. I'll give my wife a kiss every so often at the park (a quick peck on the cheek or forehead), but I don't feel the need to show off and say "Hey everyone look at me make out with my wife. Aren't I so cool!!"

I, like many, dislike any public make out sessions held by any combination of sexes. I'm a gay guy and I get irritated by guys making out in public. It lacks class and "makes the rest of us look bad."

Believe me...I certainly didn't "choose" my sexual preference. And most gay people will say the same. Along with homosexuality comes a lot of negative/hateful stuff. I tried to kid myself for a while and play the straight game...it was craptacular and a huge emotional prison! Only someone deranged would want to deal with baggage. Saying that I definately will NOT be ashamed of what I am. I think that it's important for everyone to learn about others, be respectful and show some tolerance.

I'll be there on Father's Day. Mostly because it's a little slower that day and the lines won't be so bad. And, I'll get to cheer as the drag queen leaves her wig and pumps on the shelf at Power Tower.

Let everyone be themselves...just keep your tongues in your own mouths! :)

The only reason is bothers me, is because America has publicized gay everything over the last few years. Gay reality TV, gay this and gay that. Its just not something that i think should be brought out or up so much. Its not their choice and i understand that, but when people that are gay, act extremely gay, its basically a show off i think personally. Just to get attention because thats how the gay issues have been for awhile. Its all about attention. Then when people say something, some gay people not all, get so offended, but they are the ones that started it by acting out when they shouldn't be. Just my opinion.

"AIDS Day"!!

What gets me is there has not been a single post regarding anyones displeasure with Lesbians. It's all been 2 dudes this and 2 dudes that..

I have no problems with either, I just thinks it's a bit odd no one has said "oh gross, 2 chicks makin out." yet it's the end of the world when two guys do it.

dj,

How is my statement not "grown up"? All I said is that a kid wouldn't think anything of a guy and girl making out.

This brings me around to one of my favorite shirts from the site I mentioned in another thread.

Actually most pre-pubescent kids would probably think it was gross, and it would be the same if it was two guys or two girls. Kids are equally intolerant of all sexuality! :-)

If your child asks you why two men or two women are kissing, what's wrong with just explaining to them that that's what grown-ups who love each other do, just like mommy and daddy? They'll probably understand.

I have no problem with any couple kissing or holding hands or cozying up together in line. I would however find PDA of a level beyond that to be disrespectful coming from any couple, gay or straight.

A child has just as much a choice wheater to be hetero, homo, or bisexual.

How do you figure that? Sexuality is not a choice, and seeing PDAs is going to determine it either. I think PDAs are unnecessary, but I don't think it's rude, and it has nothing to do with who is doing it, gay or straight. I also think the park should endorse Gay Day, I mean I'm sure they know it exists. I don't know how long it's been going on, but it would be a nice thing for CP to stand up for. It's definitely not self-centered, anyone has the right to go to the park on that day, and Father's Day just came to be a tradition for gay people; it is no way "taking over" the park.

And the reason why it's always "2 dudes" is because a majority of this forum is guys, and most straight people have a tendency to be more uncomfortable about gay people of their sex, just because they are attracted to a sex that they aren't; maybe they feel threatened by it? *** Edited 5/10/2006 9:43:06 PM UTC by Erikjc***

but don't expect special treatment because "you" made it "your day" there.

Who was asking for special treatment? The guy just wanted to know when Gay Days was......

Since when did meeting friends and "family" at Cedar Point become special treatment?

Then there would also have to be a straight day. And an African American day. And Latino Day. And Women's Day. And Guys Day. And Caucasian Day. And Asian Day. And Athiest Day. And Muslim Day. And Christian Day. And Jewish Day. And People With Disabilities Day.

Once you sponsor one group, you have to do them all. If you don't, you'll face lawsuits and end up doing it anyway. This way, there is no favoritism shown towards any one group.

The other thing is how controversial of an issue this is and there are people who feel very strongly about this on both sides of the fence. Therefore, having an official "gay day" puts Cedar Point on the side of homosexuals. I gurantee they would see an attendance drop if this happened. Ken Blackwell, just won the Ohio Republican ticket for governor on basically the platform against gay marriage. That's it and that was really his only issue. He has a strong following and a good chance of being Ohio's next govenor. :(

I originally posed a question relating to the unoffical, non-endorsed "Gay Day" event last month in this very forum, and instead of answering my basic question (it was never answered...LOL)...it turned into a heated political debate.

Let's be refreshed on the stupidity and ignorance, shall we? Let's shall!

QUOTE - "To have a day specifically designated by that group for them to "overtake" the park and think it's OK to do whatever cause it's "my day", that's a problem."

Cedar Fair, LP Inc. does NOT endorse this event. They are in no way, shape or form associated with it. It is organized by various LGBT organizations throughout the United States. It is typically held on Father's Day each June. At one point in time, the LGBT community was encouraged to wear red (same as you would wear one color if with a church, reunion, etc..), however this tradition has fallen to the wayside in recent years.

QUOTE- "It all comes down to what is socially acceptable and what isn't in the society today. Two dudes ramming their tounges down eachother's throats in front of a 7 year old is wrong, no matter what way you look at it. Who is to truly say what is and what isn't socially acceptable? When it comes to morality, both heterosexuals and homosexuals have equal guilt. The blame needn't lie with one particular sexual preference. AND....The LGBT community has never specifically inquired for "special treatment" whilst at the park. We expect to be treated as EQUALS.

QUOTE- "Okay, but a kid wouldn't think anything of a girl and guy kissing, because the kid has a mom and dad, not 2 guys."

Another assumption. Many homosexual couples raise healthy, well adjusted children. Who is to say that they have a mom and dad when they "may" have two daddies or two mommies? We all know what the first 3 letters of assume spell. If you have the unfortunate experiences of seeing PDA's regardless of sexual preference,...then that gives you the opportunity to discuss the topic to your child and educate them as to the reality of homosexuality.

"Gay Day" is NOT an official park endorsed event. If you feel threatened, offended, angry, scared, emasculated and the like....then that is unfortunate for you and you should truly educate yourself on the LGBT community. That is one less day of Cedar Point summer fun due to ignorance. For the rest of you, LGBT and our supportive straight friends...hooray for you and let the fun begin!!

I'm surprised this hasn't been closed yet...
