Garbage Cans, Why so many?

I read that there are over 2,000 cans around the park. When I'm at CP they're only about 20 feet apart. Does anybody know why they do this? The park would still be clean if they were only 1,000 I would think.

They want to make sure the park is clean. Also, by adding more very 20ft., there is always a place to put trash. Have you ever seen large articles of trash on the ground at CP? I haven't.

I do agree with you but does anybody else think they have a just a bit to many trash cans.

It's for those lazy people who don't want to make more than a 20 ft walk to throw something away.

Egg nog... how'd they think that up?

I found myself thinking just the opposite while at Beastbuzz @ PKI. "Why are there so few trash cans?"

The difference in litter at the two parks is like night and day- with stage lighting added.

Why not? Keeps the park clean, probably doesn't cost much per can (CPC - Cost Per Can ;) )`
It really is useful to have all the those garbage cans. I never threw litter.

they need more trash cans in the Queue lines! I was standing in MF's at about 6:30, and the line was filled with candy wrapers from the vending machines, it was the first time i had ever noticed a litter problem at CP also.
I like all the cans!!! I was there Wednesday and had something in my hand, and wanted to get rid of it quickly. I didn't have to walk very far to toss in it the can. Anyone else might have thought twice about throwing it in a can if one wasn't so near! Personally...I don't think it's a problem! I am VERY glad they have them!!! Besides, if they had less...there's more likely that they would fill up quicker and maybe maintenance wouldn't get to them in time and there would be trash over flowing! If there were 1,000 then that would be HALF the trash cans...that wouldn't be good!
The sad thing is, even with all those cans, some people still just throw litter on the ground.

Also, with less cans, CP would have to hire more sweeps, which in the long run would cost more money.

Now I've heard everything. B*tching about too many garbage cans? Get a life!

In 2000 season I was on the 3rd to the last train for mf that year, and by the time we got back out on the midway, they had all those trash cans out on the midway stacked up and all, then you really see how many there are.

I didn't know they stacked them things up at the end of the night. I thought they just left them where they stood pretty much all season long.

They do leave them where they stand all season. They stack them up on the last day of the season. Always a sad sight.

They have so many because people are lazy. If there is not one within reach, enough people would throw the trash on the ground to make the park look dirty.

Florida may have Disney World and Key West,
but Ohio has Cedar Point and Put-In-Bay.
It's great to live in Ohio!

They could have a trash can every 2 feet and people would still litter, hehe.
I think they need to put ashtrays in more locations other than entrances to rides and some shops. Most of the time, I butted out the cig on the bottom of my shoe and tossed the butt in the trash cans, which I really did NOT like to do (did not want to start a small bonfire in the trash can).

And, as a smoker who OBEYED THE RULE about no smoking in the lines, they also need to have their queue walkers and rent-a-cops be more vigilant. Ragged me off that I "went without" while others got away with it.

Suggestions of "stop smoking" and "the park should go totally non-smoking" will be cheerfully ignored.

I'd say the garbage cans are great. Anybody who litters at Cedar Point is the laziest punk in the world. I mean, I wouldn't mind walking a little bit to throw something away, but all you have to do is hold onto your trash for a minute or so, and you're bound to come within arms reach of a can. Don't even have to go out of your way :)
I agree they need to be more vigilant about smoking. I understand they can't be everywhere at once, but a couple of weeks ago I was behind two guys smoking ON the Mantis platform. I'm semi-allergic to cigarette smoke. It's not a problem on the midway because of the space and the air, but being next to someone in line has the same effect as being in the smoking section of a resteraunt or bar - I get sick. So let me say thank you for following the rules. It's very, very appreciated. I wonder if CP even considered the ash tray problem. You might want to write them a letter.

As mentioned, the adult rides had ashtrays next to each entrance and most of the shops and eateries had them, too. But when you are not really close to one, the ashtrays are missed.

My partner said to drop the butt near an trashcan and stomp it out on the ground.... that the sweeper(ettes) would rather deal with sweeping them up than with a potential small inferno. I do not litter and that, to me, would be littering.

They fill the ashtrays with kitty litter. I can only imagine what they are like after a rain (unless there are drainage holes under the litter).

Next time, I'll just put the snuffed butts in a pocket and deposit them at an ashtray.

I just tear the "hotbox" off and throw it on the ground. It burns to ash and blows away. I throw the filter in the garbage, with no worries of starting a fire.
