Future Past Employees

I worked in CP in 04. CP was full of all ages, and sometimes you would see an employee come back to work for the park who had worked years ago. I said I would never go back, I loved the place but I will be marrying and I cannot ask him to part with his young children so we could move to Ohio. But years down the road, when the children are 18, or he gains full custody and I am my own boss doing protography... Whos to say I might end up working for Cedar Point again? Way to early to say but I can't seem to shake the dreams of working there, or just move on. Anyone like me who thinks the road might lead them back to CP?

I would love to go back to CP some day, but I think I might be on the permanent no-rehire list because I had to leave early and unexpectedly after I got sick. So even though I'm sad about that, I still dream about moving back to Sandusky someday. I loved everything about that town, really. I'd love to get a job at one of the area hotels or restaurants, then buy a season pass and just hang out at the park whenever I can. The only thing I'm worried about is that not being enough. It sounds corny, but when I went to the park as a guest in 2004 I cried and cried at the end of the night when I had to go home (250 miles away). Driving past Bayside and Commons and leaving that all behind was so hard...I didn't want to go home. I'm supposed to go back for a mini-vacation next week and I'm a little worried I still might get too emotional. Ha!

I also worked at Cedar Point from 93-95. Although I would love to go back someday life circumstances probably wont allow it to happen. I see no problem in past employees hoping to come back further down the road. I think once you have worked there you will always feel connected to the point. With that thought I often wonder what it would actually be like though. As none of us would be as young as we were back then you have to wonder if you could work with kids that are still in college and leading a completely different lifestyle than you most likely do by then. I look back on my years there as great (friends, atmosphere, Louiees, Dailey,s, experiences) but going back as an employee may shed a different light on what I believed to be great then. It may skew my memory in a way that I don't want. Going back sounds great on the surface but at a deeper level it may not be all that it is cracked up to be.

I worked at CP back in 95 right out of high school, I had a summer free this year so I came back to kick back and relax.

BTW cassandra, no-rehire status is generally overlooked after 3-4 years. :)

^^ True, I really do feel like I have a connection to CP that I never had before. I was a regular but now Ive seen the ins and outs of the place. I don't know if years down the road if I could run up that lift like I could 3 years ago, haha! Wow did I have some muscle back then. Now walking from the back to the front of the park these days I nearly die. Desk jobs: yuck!

^^ I was in my teens in that time frame and in the park almost every weekend with some of my long past buddies-- since my parents kept a boat in a nearby marina and I had a season pass all the way through HS. I know that park inside and out (probably better than I should and better a fair number of the seasonals). I wanted so bad to work at CP out of HS but my parents would not let me use their boat for summer housing and threaten to cut off helping me with college if I worked at CP.

Heck -- I have a good paying "desk job" now and I still think it would be cool to work for CP.
(I almost applied for a Screamster position last season. I considered it till I crunched the math for gas and time off to leave early from my desk job to realize it wasn't possible for me to make enough money to actually cover those costs.)

I worked back in the mid-90s and I don't think I would end up back there. While I have many fond memories they are just that - memories.

Now, I did work for Disney too and I actually could picture going back there late in life as a "retirement" job. That would be a great place to work when I have grandkids and still want to keep in the game.

^I did apply for a job/internship at Disney when I was in college too... I got a lot of face time with a VP who wanted to hire me [who you've probably seen in a few Discovery channel shows on WDW]. Unfortunately I ran into a snag with them though that they wouldn't let me do just a summer position. (They wanted me to take a semester off from school. -- I didn't have the $$ in the college funds and scholarship rules to do the extended/5 year plan for school. I would have been super screwed on lost money from scholarships to take the offer)

I agree on the "retirement" job idea with Disney. It would be a lot of fun.
For me in my current career it's actually plausible that I could work for Disney if I want to [but the career positions I'm qualified for are more in CA than FL with them -- and I just can't justify the cost of living in CA] *** Edited 6/8/2007 3:46:19 AM UTC by skiboi007***

OK, this is a very strange thread. I worked at the park in '87 and STILL have not gotten over my time there...and think about going back to work there some day. I'm a computer networking professional and stumbled across a year round position at CP for a Computer Network technician...fun to think about, but I'm sure it would be pay cut from my current position and I couldn't handle the commute from Cleveland!

^ I hear you madman -- I saw that position listed too, it's a similar deal breaker I realize on the $$ aspect too. IT positions I've looked at at Disney have more realistic potential.

I was just back to CP over Memorial Day weekend. All my awesome memories flooded back for my season in 94. I pictured myself in my retirement years, finding a nice waterfront villa in Sundusky, somewhere on the schale'. Working for CP in some capacity- yelling at kids running, or cutting in line, or littering! Now that the season is longer due to Halloweekends, it would almost be plausible.
