Do you think the extension of the main midway into the parking lot--including the possibility of relocating parking off-Point--is:
-an inevitable part of CP's future?
-a great, but impractical idea?
-the last place CP would ever expand?
-going to happen, but a long time from now?
-not possible because there's no place for off-Point parking?
-not possible because it isn't feasible to run mass-transportation to and from the park?
-flat out never gonna happen?
Obviously Cedar Point still has plenty of room to expand with the existing park, but I'm curious to hear your long-term thoughts.

Eventually it will probably happen. Even though they have planty of room, they can always use extra.

Number 1 And Only Cedar Point.
I think that expansion into the parking lot could happen, but I think that it would be a long time from now. I also think that it will depend on the future success of the park and other amusement parks.
As far as transportation from off point parking. Off course it is feasible. Look at what Disney World does at their resort.

I don't see them moving to "Off point" parking and running shuttles.. There simply isn't alot of room in Sandusky close enough to make it work from a finacial point of view.
Granted there are some old warehouses and stuff along the northern part of the city (down the street from Bayside) but not nearly enough space to make up for what they'll lose out on the point.

I think a multi-level parking garage could happen in the future. That would probably free up about half of the parking lot for expansion.
Good point, Disneyland in Calif. just finished turning liek half thier lots into multi-levels with plans to do the others also. But are still leaving one lot for Downtown Disney, at an hourly rate.
Only thing I have against a multi-level would be it would disturb that picture perfect view you get as you come up the to the toll booths.

I agree Pete. I see a multi-level parking garage in the future as well. In fact, I once brought that up in the past and the post was deleted. So, yes I see expansion in the parking lot...not soon, but maybe 10-15 years from now.
You need to consider that by the time they totally run out of room, ride popularity changes. Will any of the rides that are under dogs now attract riders in 10 years? You have to remove a coaster sometime. Eventually, with the race for the most impressive coasters, they'll probably have to use parking space. I think the farthest they'll go is up to Kinsel's house, those other people won't want the park right in their backyard.
I don't know if I'm allowed to use this, but what the hell.

I think that the parking garage thing would be a good idea,... only one thing, think of how long it would take for you to get out of the garage if you were on the top level at the end of the night....
id like to see them install parking like the garages in the citys are getting, tickets and pay stations inside the park, only thing is theyd need to have more lanes to exit from then, or a few that can change directions towards the time when everyones leaving,
why not have off site parking lots with a monorail or large shuttles?

One thing I don't know much about at all, but would the peninsula be able to support a multi-level parking garage? I know the coasters are monstrously heavy, but a huge concrete structure with hundreds or thousands of cars on it would still weigh a lot more, and I'd wonder about the stability. Or the cost of making it stable (IE sinking a foundation, etc.). But it would be a good move, if possible.

I don't think off-Point parking is very viable. Cedar Point would have to use the existing infrastructure to move people around-- running shuttles on the existing roads; a monorail would be difficult to install given the buildings, power lines, sewers, city streets, etc. Disney World was designed from the ground up by Walt Disney Co., and so was able to incorporate such concerns from the beginning. Also, if CP were to proceed with such project, I suspect the good people of Sandusky would not care to have their roads and lives messed up for the time it would take to put such a facility in place.

Actually.. the park is set on a very sturdy layer of bedrock. As is most of the area (hence all the quary mining in the area) so the weight wouldn't be a problem.

Ah, very good. :) Then it would definately be a good idea, given that they could pull it off... *cough* parking tax *cough*

I think one of thier biggest problems to pull it off (talking about the garage) would be those people who own the houses right there along the parking lot. I know if I lived there I'd be complaining about a large block on concrete popping up. The rides really don't affect them because they are further down the way.

I think it will be a long time before they are forced to expand to the parking lot. And unless they add more to the peninsula or expand into the water (which is not very feasible) I think they will build up parking garages, and will use the rest of the parking lot for rides.
just a quick question... Is there a reason as to why they don't build over the water? There are so many cool aspects to building over the water. Why don't they do it?
