Hello Pointbuzz Community,
I am new here and I have questions concerning employment for next year.
1) I am a college student and my winter term will not end until the end of April. When is the start date for employment and how many days before should I arrive?
2) If I plan on taking a bus to sandusky, how will I get to Cedar Point from there?
3) As I stated, I am a college student. And classes will resume after Labor Day. When will I head back home and will I tell Cedar Point of my departure date in the application?
4) I read that the dorms are first-come-first-serve. Is there a chance that I go and there is no rooms available?
5) What exactly should I take with me? Cedar Point states that I will need light clothing, but roughly how many pairs of shirts, shorts, shoes, etc.?
6) Does Cedar Point have dry cleaning on site for my clothes, and the uniforms they provide?
7) How many pairs of uniforms will Cedar Point provide, because I am a frequent sweater? :)
8) Also, Should I bring a fan just incase I get assigned to a dorm with no A/C?
9) Should I bring deodorant :), shampoo, soap, etc. or will I have the chance to purchase them in Sandusky?
10) How will I get around in Sandusky, bus, shuttle, taxi?
11) How does the bonus work?
12) How much money should I bring with me?
13) Will I be able to choose what division, job, or even ride/restaurant/etc. I want to work at?
14) AND FINALLY, when will the applications begin for the 2008 season? :)
I appreciate all the help and thank you in advance.
Paul

Wow, this is a bit early for 2008. :)
But I can't help you out...I have yet to work at Cedar Point so I don't know.
::Deep Breath::... Here Goes Nothing...
1) People start arriving to work starting in April (a few even earlier). Others start as late as early June... You will discuss that during your interview.
2) There is a greyhound station in Sandusky, but you will have to get a taxi to the park from there.
3) The application does ask when you can work until. Cedar Point does use contract-based employment so it is best that you work until your stated end date. The longer you can work, the better your chance of getting a good job. Late August is best, but they will really push you to work Halloweekends if possible.
4) There will be a room available for you, but it may not be in the dorm of your choice.
5) Take enough clothes to have casual clothes when you aren't working, and make sure you bring clothing for all sorts of weather. The Lake Erie shore is unpredictable.
6) There are laundry facilities located in the dorms, but your uniforms are exchanged out for clean ones at the Wardrobe Department.
7) You will receive 2 shirts, and 2 pairs of shorts. You can exchange them out as frequently as you would like.
8) This is a good idea, but if you forget, or don't bring one, you can always get a cheap one at Meijer or Wal-Mart
9) It's best if you bring these items, but you will be able to purchase them either at the Commons Store in the dorms (overpriced), or at several of the stores around town (there is an employee bus that will take you to the mall and such)
10) As previously stated, there is an employee bus that goes to various places around Sandusky. If you want to go somewhere else, you will have to call a taxi.
11) As I stated previously, Cedar Point is contract-based employment. Upon successfully completing your contract you will receive a bonus based upon the number of hours you worked for the summer. This check normally arrives 6-8 weeks after you process out.
12) Enough to get you through to your first paycheck (2-4 weeks). It would be a wise idea to get a checking account at one of the banks in Sandusky as a place to deposit your paychecks.
13) On your application you are able to put your 3 top departments, and the 3 departments you do not want to work at. Depending on when you apply, and when you get your interview, you may be able to choose what ride you would prefer to work at.
14) Normally applications become available in December.
Hope that helped!

CPGuru,
Yeah, I was expecting you guys to think it is early and it is too, but I am trying to schedule for my fall classes and want to know what I should take if I am not going to take any next summer.
:)
Thank You very much Josh. That helped answer my questions but I've got one more. You stated that there is an interview. Will this be in Sandusky, online, or over the phone? If it is in Sandusky, when would it be?

Hello Pointbuzz Community,I am new here and I have questions concerning employment for next year.
1) I am a college student and my winter term will not end until the end of April. When is the start date for employment and how many days before should I arrive?
They have you process in the day before your first day of work. Make sure you count that day in. When I did it, I moved into housing the day before processing in. You can process in with a copy of your contract. Make sure you pick your start date to compensate an extra day before to process in or two if you decide to move into housing the day before that. I personally moved 2 days before my first day which gives plenty of time to move in and unpack that evening. This gives you a head start on process in day so you can get through your training and be on your location the for start date.
2) If I plan on taking a bus to sandusky, how will I get to Cedar Point from there?
You will have to take a taxi.
3) As I stated, I am a college student. And classes will resume after Labor Day. When will I head back home and will I tell Cedar Point of my departure date in the application?
End date works like the start date except you don't have to process in. The date you choose will be your last contracted day. You can pack before your last day and leaveafter work. I like to stay the day after to process out and pack. This also gives time if the park is open to take a spin on a few rides.
4) I read that the dorms are first-come-first-serve. Is there a chance that I go and there is no rooms available?
You will have a room and given your start date, you probably will end up in commons. Don't worry about getting housing, if you wish, you can find yourself roomates during spring of 2008.
5) What exactly should I take with me? Cedar Point states that I will need light clothing, but roughly how many pairs of shirts, shorts, shoes, etc.?
Bring cloths and beding if possible for cold to hot. My rule of thumb is about 1 weeks worth of cloths or somewhat more. This means you can go a week or two if you stretch it and do laundry on your day off or during a split. Too much and you'll have nowhere to put it.
6) Does Cedar Point have dry cleaning on site for my clothes, and the uniforms they provide?
No, they wash only your uniforms. With dry cleaning, your on your own. They do have washers and driers in housing.
7) How many pairs of uniforms will Cedar Point provide, because I am a frequent sweater? :)
You get 2 sets and will have to exchange daily or wash frequently.
8) Also, Should I bring a fan just incase I get assigned to a dorm with no A/C?
A good fan is a life saver for apartments without A/C in the rooms. The dorms in commons have A/C and heat. Look for a fan that puts out a good amount of air at low noise if needed.
9) Should I bring deodorant :), shampoo, soap, etc. or will I have the chance to purchase them in Sandusky?
There is a regulation trip to Meijer to pick up stuff that you forgot. You can go either way. I like to brings as much as possible so I'm setup ASAP.
10) How will I get around in Sandusky, bus, shuttle, taxi?
If need be, there is a shuttle that goes to Meijer. Find a friend with a car and buy them burger or a drink or something for taking you out.
11) How does the bonus work?
For every hour you work over the summer you will get 50 cent. If you complete your contract, you will get a check a few weeks later for the total your bonus gets to minus taxes.
12) How much money should I bring with me?
A good amount. You have to last until your first paycheck which could be up to 3 weeks after you first get there.
13) Will I be able to choose what division, job, or even ride/restaurant/etc. I want to work at?
You can ask for a specific location in the department you speak with, but might not get exactly what you want. Staffing isn't always even so they have to move people around.
14) AND FINALLY, when will the applications begin for the 2008 season? :)

I thought someone might come in with all the answers after my post... You did the nice "quoting" of each question though.
