FRS Radio / GPS

I should think not. The pitch is too high in the noise coming through the PA in the queue.

It IS 60 Hz feeding the inverters, though...

Just a quick correction...the FRS radios are NOT on the 49 MHz band. On the one hand, that's a good thing, because the 49 MHz band is very crowded with wireless mics, toy cars, baby monitors, and wireless headset radios. The bad thing about that is that now that you can basically only buy FRS radios and you pretty much can't get the 49 MHz FM radios anymore, it makes it real hard to find matches for the 49 MHz 5-channel stuff I already have...

In any case, the FRS radios are nice, but kind of limited in the park largely because the people who have them rarely practice any kind of bandwidth-sharing etiquette.

The benefit to the FRS radios over mobile phones, of course, is exactly what Ron was thinking about when he opened this thread: Because they are open channels, if enthusiasts are looking for a way to find each other in a park while not knowing who is or isn't there, an FRS "hailing frequency" would be an easy way to go about it.
